Edge has a tiny bit of difficulty in "One", and I seem to recall a few other moments where my ears sort of perked up at an odd guitar noise- but other than that the band is really on fire (sorry, I know its a U2 cliche)...Especially during BTBS. They take the emotional gravity of that song, and instead of lightening up on the German crowd (for a song that visually features a burning cross twisting into a swastika), they drive it home and power it just as hard- and the German crowd rides the wave and erupts throughout the show, making the performance shine in many places.
Sound
Surprisingly good sound. A little bassy for me, but we really don't get as much Adam/Larry as we should, so that's not really a huge problem Recording: Audience microphone - 3.5 stars
Audience
Like I mentioned above, booming at times, and quiet at others. They never get in the way, and they're never too loud. Not a fantastic mix between band and crowd though, which is a personal thing for me (I like hearing the audience singing along, as long as its not too direct in the mix, like, hearing ONE person singing along with Bono...badly)
Overall
I downloaded this show after reading an interesting anecdote about it in Bill Flanagan's "U2 At the End of the World" (it involved the show opening, if you've read the book- if not, pick it up), and aside from Larry singing Dirty Old Town and Bad, there's nothing here you can't get at any other good Zoo show. That being said, this show's highlights were:
-The Fly
-Until the End of the World
-Bad
-Bullet the Blue Sky
-Where the Streets Have No Name
-UV's lyric change (all f*cked up)...the whole song is good, actually
I'll also add that this show takes place in a weird period of ZooTV for me, where Mr. Macphisto had been invented, but they weren't playing the Zooropa songs with him yet. Macphisto singing Desire is a little weird for me..I preferred the Mirrorball Man for that. But oh well. Decent show here, nothing to blow your mind.
