2011-07-02 - Nashville, Tennessee - Vanderbilt Stadium

setlist

Performance notes: This is just the second U2 concert ever in Nashville, 29 years and 7 months after the first. It is also the first U2 concert anywhere in the state of Tennessee since 14 May 1997, Memphis. The snippet of The Wanderer is quite lengthy, running to two verses. At the end of the show, Bono pulls a member of the crowd on stage to play guitar; he performs All I Want Is You with the band, dedicating it to his wife. Performance

I saw the 29th show of the tour in Toronto and this was the 100th show of the tour in my home town so it is hard to be objective. They gave 100% like they always do. The Edge was shredding in Toronto, but by now they are into such a groove that the band is a little worn down, but also locked in. Overall a very solid performance. No slip ups or fails. Just a great U2 performance.

Sound

Amazingly good sound for an audience recording. I have boots for every U2 show I've been to and this is the best one.
Recording: Audience microphone - 4.5 stars

Audience

It was 91 degrees fahrenheit in the shade at show time. The humidity was very high and we were crammed into a small university football stadium. Everyone just sucked it up and we all did fine. Great response and attitude the whole show. Everyone stood for the whole thing all the way up to the last row.

Overall

Low: the heat. Highs: Great set list. The Wanderer. The blind guitar player during All I Want Is You for an unexpected encore. Bono was very spiritual on this night even more so than usual. I was glad to hear him talk about Johnny Cash. His sister Joanne is a friend of mine and the entire Cash family is always worthy of praise. I was glad to be a part of a classic show.
