    So there's sad U2, experimental U2, punk U2, alternative U2, happy U2, dark U2, uplifting U2, etcetera, etcetera...

There's always something interesting for anybody.
You like spectacular bands? here, check Zoo TV from Sidney. You like alternative underground bands? here, check Red Rocks or some early festival with Bono climbing during Electric Co. You like uplifting more poppish bands? here, this is Slane.

My problem with the original question is... what do you mean by "non-obsessed"? because the answers sound more like "how do you introduce U2 to someone who doesn't know (almost) anything about the band", not some casual/average/hardcore-non-obsessed fan, in which case I'd share some rarity that s/he may not know... Mercy, Winter, Oh Berlin, Down All The Days... depends.
You are 100% correct in that my question is most certainly flawed. I am thinking of conversations with people who know One, and Streets, and WOWY and maybe have JT or AB on CD.

The folks who say "you've seen them HOW MANY TIMES?" or look st my heart/suitcase tattoo and say "so do you love travelling or something?".

    Those people.

There is certainly something for everyone. My wife for example didn't know Out of Control or Electric Co. whent he band played them Monday/Tuesday... all I said was 'Boy' and she nodded and started rocking along
  2. I had a friend ask me to build a U2 back page primer of stuff thats not in radio rotation, was not released as a single, or that was easily overlooked. One from each album. Here's what I am thinking:

Boy - Another Time Another Place
    October - Tomorrow
    War - Seconds
    Unforgettable Fire - Bad
    Joshua Tree - Exit
Rattle & Hum - Love Rescue Me
    Achtung Baby - So Cruel
    Zooropa - Dirty Day
    Pop - Gone
    ATYCLB - Kite
    HTDAAB - Fast Cars
    NLOTH - Moment of Surrender
    Songs - Volcano

Nice. And also a perfect example of how everyone has different ears for songs. Last Night On Earth and A Man and a Woman are probably two of the last songs I would include. I appreciate how they fit within their albums, but for me they just don't stick in my mind.

I struggled with Red Hill vs. Exit and A Day Without Me vs. Another Time.

Another Time was a great choice, too. Woulda been my second! For October, it was a toss up between Rejoice and I Threw A Brick. If you asked again tomorrow, this whole list might be different though... Thats how it goes!
  7. Exactly. Now... B-sides

BTW... I'm changing Rattle & Hum to Hallelujah, Here She Comes!
  9. Gotta have Slow Dancing and 2 Shots before anything else goes in
  10. ' A Day Without Me' was a single, b-side was 'Touch'.
  11. Ok. Ready...

Marked with *, while technically not b-sides, but non-album singles, have to be included. I'm attaching them to albums by virtue of release dates.

    Boy - 11 O'Clock Tick Tock*
    October - A Celebration*
War - New Years Day (US/Kevorkian Mix)
    UF - Love Coomes Tumbling
    JT - Luminous Times
RH - Hallelujah, Here She Comes
AB - Lady With the Spinning Head
Zoo - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me*
Pop- Two Shots of Happy,One Shot of Sad
    ATYCLB -Summer Rain
HTDAAB - Big Girls Are Better
