    I must admit that
    a) I can't stop listning - such an high energy show!
    b) The "I'm sorry" bit in UTEOTW has quite some suspense - it certainly does add something extra to the show...

But I guess all setlist complainers really don't care. They don't listen to the show and stuff like "high energy" doesn't fit in their scheme of judging shows...
Of course, "change" would be welcome and applauded, but the fact that setlists in Europe are static doesn't mean that the shows aren't good...
I know people who think the ZOO TV tour was U2 greatest achievement - now THAT was a static setlist

I am no FUN... I know (I think POP is too "dark" and that Invisible is one of the highlights of the show - in fact I think that from The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone) to EBTTRT is one BIG highlight...)

    OK...your turn

High energy is what its all about. I personally have enjoyed the 1st half of the show more than the 2nd. It doesnt not change because it is not to meant to change. Not because U2 can't change it. It's the story.

The 2nd half is part trying to stay on theme, part trying to please the crowd. Not the critics here in this forum that are listening every night, but the crowds in each city, at each show that are going to see them only 1 time. And each one of them probably has their own ideal setlist in mind too.... 18,000 + setlists per night, plus the forum here. Do the math. And as I've mentioned before, the technology of the show dictates a good part of it also.

You ARE fun, BiGiRL! You kick back and enjoy the shows for the exact right reasons... because of the energy. Because of the human error. Because it's U2. You have the passion of a U2 fan. I applaud you!
  3. And I applaud U2 you too blueeyedboy

Of course I am "fun" ...but sometimes I wish I could drop the irony...
(and I guess that if no-one complained about the setlist, I would - but still enjoy the high energy show )

...but what I really wanted to say.... WOUW... what a great show Barcelona 3 was !!! - and how funny that that today I could enjoy it so much more than yesterday "live" @the setlist party (but I did enjoy the setlist party )

  7. i buy records and merchandising, i buy tickets for many show all over europe each tour, i am u2.com subscribers since 2004, i write for two italia u2website, i was invited 3 times in italian national radio rai 2 to speak with a famous journalist about them, i pay everything ( trips, hotels, etc) of my own, i'm fan since 1979, i bought everything possible of them ,they are my life and they saved my life. So please don't write to me to go to their shows or to listen to theis shows or to record they shows and not to pay attention at the setlists. If you go to theatre, museum, read a book, watch a film you have to follow like in concerts the music and the setlists . I'm not agree about things you wrote, sorry, ok beeing fab ,but you must be fan with a different view . Critisize them sometimes ,love them always with positive and negative things. If i write all of these is because i know all the history of them and if you love one team, one band or a friend you have to say everything. I don't like for example only VOLCANO and ONLY TWO ENCORES like yesterday night and the encores were COBL and BD as always, please ! For Turin 1 and 2 i paid 400 Euro for tickets, 100 train, 500 for Hotel, 150 for meals ,i stayed there 4 days for rehearsals, i bought labels from fanfire.com so please don't get me angry, don't suggest me to listen to music and don't care to setlists. Ok? Everything you know is right, maybe , but everybody can have his opinion . Bye bye ps i hope this time you will understand, if not, no problem i can go out of here,Ciao and u2 forever.

    sorry for many writing misstakes
  9. Everyone has their own opinion on the matter. It's just when people say 'you're wrong about that', it starts getting contentious.

I'm not bothered about setlist variation, Pearl Jam do that for me - that's why I love them live. I love U2 in a live setting for their impeccable performance built around stupendous theatrics etc. Everyone is different. You have your opinion, everyone accepts it.
  10. I understand the setlist thing; I would be fine with variation but for me they're free streams and they sound amazing, so I don't complain. Everyone's got an opinion, but no one is "right" universally. And don't leave the forum, it's great having everyone here! Fans like you and me can focus on loving U2, not about setlist issues.
  11. There's truly a range of songs I'd love to hear live and think, they would fit in their rotation pretty well. But they don't do it, they have their reasons. We can probably think hey they could rotate more or do this and that, but in the end, we cannot change it and be rather happy, they still enjoy their job. And I guess, most of us here are happy because of this.
They have figured out what works best for all show attendees and to be honest, those who travel around the world to see tons of shows and buy literally everything and wait hours at a hotel or at a venue are the least percentage in a single show. They don't play in the first place to please the die-hards, but to please the casual fans, those who say "hey, nice, I'd like to see U2 live once" - and they manage to do that.

They are not Pearl Jam, they are not the e-street band, they are U2. They do it their way and they've always done it in a great way. Their concepts, stories, technology and effects have been an important part of their live performances for 25 years now.
It doesn't make any sense to blame us for the money you spend on your U2 trips and that you have a right to complain about their setlists. You can have your own opionion about the setlits, so do others. Everyone sees it differently, we all have favorite songs, favorite live tracks and songs we don't like or are sick of. But some just take it and they have the right to do so like everyone else has the right to have another opinion.
It's really more than unfriendly to tell other fans, who love the same band like you for the same reason like you - their music, they are wrong because they see things differently then you. Nobody is right or wrong here.

Last year I sold my complete U2 collection. I just figured - I don't need dust collectors to love this band. I want them playing, I want their songs, I want to live the moment and I want to capture the moment. And share all of this with great U2 friends.
Others fill rooms over rooms with merchandise, records and what-not. Why not?

I truly am not the person liking everyhting they do. Really, there are times I mock up EVERYTHING they do - I still don't even like the SOI songs but there's this one thing about this band: you walk into a show, and they get you from the first note on. They still are able to play their way straight into my heart, no matter what song it is.
And those SOI songs - meanwhile, they at least make me smile because they remind me of 4 great U2 i+e shows I've seen, 7 by the end of the tour and THIS is why I love this band.

There's also one thing you should know: these topics while a show is running are to be seen with a special kind of humor. Not everything posted here is meant that serious as you might read it. So probably some lines here just sounded harsher to you, than they were actually meant.

We are all here for one single reason that makes us ONE: We love this band. And that should be the most important thing.
