1. I was going through some older shows, mainly from the vertigo and 360 tours and really comparing Bono's voice from those tours to the current i&e tour. There is a big difference in my opinion, certain shows last year he seemed to really struggle which is to be expected.

That said I really want to see U2 in 2017 in London and i'm hoping Bono is on fire vocally. Then it was brought to my attention, as a vocalist, during 2016 does he totally refrain from singing / practicing?

What does Bono do to nurture his voice and keep it so rich. Would be be practising and training his range every now and again or simply only sing when writing and recording for the new record (SOE)

How do you think Bono and the rest of the band will sound next year, do you think he is happy with his voice at the moment or can he improve? It's intriguing to think just how much rehearsing and thought process is going into next year, they seem to be really enjoying themselves away from their job, the new album aside
  2. I think Vertigo was really bad but he was great during most of the 360 tour. I know he was trying to do things with his voice during the Vertigo Tour that he couldn't do anymore and seemed to change some things around during the 360 Tour that made him sound better in regards to his voice changing. I always think Bono really cares about the fans and will always give his best. Even if his voice isn't that strong during the next tour, I know he is doing his best and that is all I need to know.

During Popmart his voice was really bad, but he gave everything he got
  4. Sarajevo and Mexico City are not the best examples of his vocal skills during Popmart. The show that I saw in Rotterdam on July 18 1997, Bono's voice was actually quite strong. During the Elevation Tour his voice was really bad.
For example: listen to the high notes in this video at 4:06 that he could not sing at the Elevation Tour:

I find his voice is weakest at the Super Bowl in 2002.
  5. Leg 7 of the 360 tour was where Bono was at his best in the past 10 years imo.
  6. I agree. But also some shows in 2010, and I+E tour, his voice was strong imo.
  7. His voice has definitely had some training or something, at least from 2009 onwards.
  8. I dont think his voice was the main reason why he hold it back and avoided high notes.
He was probaly in a lot of pain due to bike accident, hitting high notes causes pain.

Just listen to the Josh Holland performence, he nailed every note in each song. To me that was one of the best moments in his career.

But one thing I notice on IE tour is that his voice was a lot cleaner and had more tone then on 360/Vertigo tour.
Eletric Co, Gloria, WOWY, Pride, Steets havent sound like this in a very long time.
Just listen from 6m10s and forward on this version, he didnt even sing Streets like this on ZooTV.

    Here are some other highlights
    Higher

    Eletric Co

    WLCTT sound great

    Great performence of WOWY

    Listen from 1:20 to 1:35

He also hit the notes in the chours of Iris night after night.
