1. The 2007 essay is outdated, given current political developments and the war in Syria. Why nothing on why they are taking TJT out on tour this year? Why nothing on why the band think it is still relevant today? Why nothing on the background of the live recording (not even the date is given) or what it has been like touring TJT in 1987?
On the credits, why is there no mention of who plays acoustic guitar on so many tunes, or harmonica, or piano at MSG?
I know I've already critizised this release a lot, but it's really a sloppy release.
On the plus side: A fine live recording from 1987 (albeit not complete, omitting Bad is just that) and the before released B-Side-stuff is available again, as the 2007 release has long been out of print. And I like the fact that all of it is available on vinyl, although I cancelled my order.
  2. - The album is still epic.
    - The live concert is known for a long time but is still one of my favorites. The remastered version is great.
    - One Tree Hill (St Francis hotel remix) is atmospheric as I like. a new complete redesigned version that makes this beautiful song so different now.
    - Bullet The Blue Sky (Jacknife Lee remix) starts slowly, maybe too slowly but little by little becomes epic. It is a great new version.
    - Running to stand still (Daniel Lanois remix) makes me close my eyes and just listens how Lanois rewrote the song. It is so beautiful, so peaceful.
    - Red Hill Mining Town (Steve Lillywhite 2017 version) is not so different from the original version. Always nice to listen to this epic song.
    - With or Without You (Daniel Lanois remix) is a downtempo version of Master Lanois. Not so good than the magical original one.
    - Where The Street Have No Name (Flood remix) is weird, maybe too weird. The new version I like the less. Someone noticed Bono singing "where the streets have no love" ?
    - On the last disc 13 songs are known for ages. BUT I still haven't found what I'm looking for (Lillywhite alternate 1987 version) is DOPE !!!!! Desert of our love was part of the song and now we have the proof. ISHFWILF is now funky as hell ! Best song of the coffret !
    - One tree hill reprise (Brian Eno 2017 version mix) is also new. That's the song Eno wanted to show up on the album. Very eno-ish and great.

My review is a positive review.
The new remixes and versions give me hope for the forthcoming album (next year?).
  3. Listening on Spotify right now.
