  3. After three listens the song is certainly the most repetitive one that the band has ever released
  4. Maybe you should check their back catalogue again. I can name 5 more hits that are more "repetitive" than this.

    I think keeping in mind that these guys are in their later 50s now, have been at this since they were teens, and have already made so much absolutely smashing music and had so many reinventions and changes, that it's ok that they aren't always at the very cutting edge. I'm just glad they aren't trying to make all their songs sound just like With or Without You, One, or Pride. They do some different stuff, and even if it's not their Best Work ever, it doesn't have to be.

    U2 made The Joshua Tree, U2 made Achtung Baby. By any sane standard, their best work is waaay behind them and it'd be crazy to expect them to even approach that kind of standard now. Remembering that, I think, makes it a lot more easy to appreciate their newer stuff -- it really is pretty great, after all. I think for everybody among us here, there's AT LEAST one or two U2 songs from the last couple of albums that we could rank among our all-time favourites. That's all that really matters, isn't it? Enjoying the show...

  7. I like it. Shows progression, and even Larry gets to keep his Terminatior going all the way through the vid.

    Beautiful Day has the same chord progression for both the verses and the chorus. The Miracle is just as if not more repetitive than Blackout is, Pride has the same intro, chorus, verse chords, solo chords, etc. Things can be repetitive other than just lyrics. You could easily argue that Numb is super repetitive, etc. How many times does Bono say "baby baby baby" in ultraviolet?
  9. I don't know or care. This song just goes no where for me. It's just essentially the same thing over and over throughout the song and it never reaches any high point.

    Not to mention bono's got the cheese grater back out.. Ned, Fred, Jack, zach, really?

    I'll grant your point about the cheese factor coming in a bit strong with the name references, yes (though otherwise I think the lyrics are great).

    But I'll take what you call "repetitive" as groovy, rocking...both flippant and dense at the same time...everything that ATYCLB was NOT when the band departed from their 90s glory days for a safer, overly sentimental, way too mid-tempo over and over again of a sound.

    It's good to have this sound back again. Reminds me a little bit of LNOE...anyone else?
