I just got around to watching the AIWIY BBC performance and the strings were a nice touch. I don't know if I'd be a fan of them doing a full show with an orchestra, but how would you all react if instead of rotating those E-stage songs every night, they were the same 3 or 4 but performed with an orchestra?
Lights of Home, All I Want is You, Original of the Species, Every Breaking Wave, Kite...lot of potential.
What would your E-stage orchestra set look like?

I don't think they ever rehearsed with a complete orchestra for the tour.
I think some articles mentioned the possibility of including an orchestra but I'm not sure if it was fan/press made-up shit, or some band member said it – but it's worth mentioning they also promised pairs of "very different shows"... Very different my ass.
And then there was that Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad at the O2 with the strings octet – I think that's the only time a kind-of-orchestra stepped into the I&E stage.

I think there was talk just about string quartet...

Yep. But never really materialized. Maybe some of the IEM tapers that recorded the private rehearsals know otherwise, but as far as we know they never actually rehearsed with the quartet for the proper tour, only for sporadic performances.

Yeah... I just meant there was not talk about whole orchestra for i+e... but if I remember correctly, that string quarted was mentioned spotted by some in Vancouver when rehearsing in Pacific Coliseum... but maybe it was just false rumours...![]()

And for the orchestra set I would switch OOTS with Please (not fan of OOTS and Please would gat special feel when performed with orchestra). Other songs looks great (Kite extended like in 2006). And I was talking once about Troubles would be awesome orchestra version

Troubles has a lot of strings in the verses and instrumental breaks so it definitely fits the bill
Not sure about Please though. It's a very special song as-is, and translating it to an orchestral setting... not sure. What I'm sure is that it would be better than the 2001 acoustic versions though

Love Is All We Have Left
Lights Of Home [strings]
Original Of The Species
Kite
Drowning Man
Summer Of Love
Running To Stand Still
Every Breaking Wave [full band and electric, but with strings, ala AIWIY BBC]
Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
The Troubles
10 songs that could easily fit into an orchestral setup. My heart would explode.

I thought it's some synths in Troubles, but it doesn't matter lol...![]()
You're right about 2001 acoustic versoin of Please...just the Baltimore one was great (electric full band - sadly there is not good sounding bootleg). But single version has some strings in at the start and the end and during the soli together with the guitar could be good too. Definitely would depend on arrangements
