Here's your +1 sirs. They're just not good enough at being "just 4 musicians playing together", even more so with Bono's current inability to play guitar and complement Edge. So they should just embrace the full-on treatment of songs and produce a total mindfuck album that goes along the lines of Fez/Being Born, Cedars Of Lebanon, The Troubles, Book Of Your Heart, Love Is All We Have Left and 13. Who cares if the songs are not radio-friendly or if you can't jump along to the beat? 95% of the audience doesn't jump along anymore anyway!
    NO HERE'S YOUR +1, OKAY?!
  2. Give us another "All That You Can't Leave Behind" instead of another "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb".
  3. Please give us something not even remotely similar to any of those
  4. I would LOVE THIS.
  5. My favorite albums are Achtung Baby, ATYCLB (When I look at the world, my favorite song), NLOTH and POP. I also find tracks 7 - 11 (no pun intended) of SOI sonically interesting, along with Book of your heart as a lot of you have mentioned. Surely, ideally, I'd like an album with elements from all these albums combined in the context of today's U2. But, honestly, whatever they put out, I'm gonna be super excited. The band have written the soundtrack of my life, some of the best songs of all time and have done groundbreaking tours, so the fact that they are thinking of writing new songs and releasing new material, I admire that and let's hope we do get a new album sometime.
SOE also keeps growing on me, mainly because I listen to it as Bono told us to: songs-letters to family, fans, friends, places he loves & as if he wouldn't be around to hear the songs; and I appreciate it more when I approach it that way.
  6. ATYCLB was my coming of age album. I was 18 when it was released, very much in a transitional phase between youth and young manhood. I held onto that album like a life preserve... it got me through, and I will always have a deep connection to it.

SOI also connected deeply with me. It just came at me at a time when I really needed it. The stress of you children, busy adult lives, etc was getting to me... it was again like a life preserve somewhat.

Point is that the quality of the music is only half the equation... the other half is how it’s experienced by the listener. While I know U2 have made better albums than those 2, I will always consider ATYCLB and SOI masterpieces.

Meanwhile, HYDAAB and NLOTH came at a time in my life when I was in my 20’s, and was drunk and partying all the time. I still liked them, but they never resonated with me. Likewise, SOE came at a time where I was pretty much free of personal conflict, just a working, married father of 2, just doing what I do.

    Yes! (except for 13)
