  1. Starting this one early, so people who want to photograph U2 this year can discuss photography here!

    I'm currently working on a spreadsheet that has all the camera and bag policies for this years arenas in it, which will be quite helpful for some of us here. Let me know if you are interested to collaborate and I'll send you a link. Would be good to have some of your personal experiences as for cameras.

    I'm also working, or I will start working on it slowly again soon, on an article on U2 photography to help beginners out. Might need some of your input as well if you're up for it though I already have some names here from previous discussions I will reach out to soon

  3. Hoping to get a photo pass for one or two of the shows here in Madrid. It would be incredible!

    Does anybody know if U2 has a dedicated photographer area just in the very front (like this) or instead only allow photographers to be in the sound desk/soundboard area like some of the bigger bands out there?

    I can help with the spreadsheet too, of course

    for the JT tour they were allowed only very far back. on that VIP soundboard area, I think. poor journalists had to pack massive teles and all got the same boring shots during streets.

    can't remember seeing any photogs in 2015, except for their personal one...

  7. Hey Remy, here was my photography tutorial effort, from TJT tour. Actually, it's more about videography, but should still be useful. You might want to incorporate some of it in yours.

    Unfortunately, I didn't get to see any of TJT tour, & only filmed the majority of one show on i+e, Paris 1. YouTube took down the better videos though Here's a couple of the better songs they left up.

    Any help would be appreciated if anyone knows the policies for either venue as i've never been to either venue before!

    There's a photographer over here in Scotland who shoots a lot of bands/artists at the Hydro and he said there was no photography passes for the U2 gigs. I got my camera in without issues for both gigs!

    Didn't have any problems at all with Dublin we were in the queue and i got a simple 'Is it a Camera? Can you open the bag please sir?' - I did so, and there was no issues. Important to remember that it may have changed as it was almost 3 years ago!

    Yes, that is how it works pretty much all the time. There is "No cameras" printed on most tickets, maybe on all of them though and the official promoters' instructions usually say the same. If people ask promoters about copact cameras, they always get the answer that they are not allowed. In 99% of the cases nobody makes any problems at the venues though. Well, everyone has a camera at the cell phone nowadays and the no-camera policy would have to mean that you are not allowed to tak a cell pone in.
    Well, I guess there won't be any problems with compact cameras this time either, but what do I know.

    The press contact on i+e was a lady called Iris. I got a photo pass at the press booth next to the box office at the O2 in London. There were 5 press photographers with me.

    For Germany, if you only have a very small lens on your mirrorles, it might work. Meaning a fix one like 50mm or so. with a bigger zoom lens (esp. a tele zoom), highly likely they will not let you bring it in. They already have problems with slightly bigger bridge cameras.
    Currently, it's even venue rule to not bring ANYTHING, bags not bigger than a A4 (20x30cm). They changed for security reasons any rule last 1-2 years and if you are unlucky having the wrong security guy....

    For TJT in Berlin, LiveNation posted the same rules everywhere (quite actually NOTHING allowed), just 3-4 days before the concert, they answered emails stating for U2, compact cameras were allowed.
  12. Great idea for a thread !

    I'll be taking my trusty Canon G7X, which has served me really well on the last two tours (equivalent of 24-100mm lens, f1.8 at the widest end and still f2.8 fully zoomed). I won't be risking my bigger cameras and lenses.

    For I&E in Glasgow, the press photographers seemed to be in RZ, with some pretty long lenses !
