    That's not what people are saying. If that's what they were saying we'd all be looking at the "design your own setlist" thread. All people are hoping for is a one or two song variation for the second night in a city. Not too much to hope for in my book.

    The thing is that people is not just "hoping for".

    I really hope and want them to play Showman and hope they keep Red Flag Day.
    We all WANT them to play whatever is in our wish list. That's fine, I never complain about it, I want the same.

    The thing is when people make it sound like they think that U2 SHOULD play x or y. That's not right, and that comes from a sense of entitlement that personally I find really annoying.

    I'd WANT them to play my wishlist, yes.
    They COULD play a number of different things on my wishlist? yes.
    Is there a valid reason for them NOT to play them? Probably not

    SHOULD they play them then? NO, they owe you nothing, it's their call. Stop feeling entitled.

    (And I'm not talking about semantics, people can use "want" and "could" and "just hope", but the tone of the comment is a complain, that they think U2 "should" do something different... Or viceversa, they could use "should" while the tone is nothing like a complain).
  3. There's nothing wrong with criticising a setlist with or without variation. If they add new songs, sweet. If they don't, awesome. Just because someone makes an observation about the band's choices, or performance, or energy level or whatever doesn't mean they need to step back and take a break from the tour or something to that effect. Part of it was their opening night, which I think was the best in a long time, if not ever. It set the bar high imho

    I agree 100% with this.
  5. Yeah, I'm not looking for them to play my dream setlist, at all. A little variation would be great, we know they can do it from the I+E tour. If anything, you would have thought the odd song change would keep things fresh for the band as well.

    If they're going to play the exact same setlist each night, that's their choice and fair play. But if they are planning on doing that, keep the same number of songs per night and don't just drop Red Flag Day out of nowhere on night 2. I just don't understand the logic behind it.

    No pitchforks here. I like good healthy discussion with disagreements for various reasons. Clearly you and others prefer an Elevation or Lovetown style show that mixes it up a bit more with song choices, albeit with a shorter setlist. Others of us prefer a theatrical, multi sensory experience (pun intended) that has a narrative logic to the performance, with a longer setlist that admittedly lacks some variation.

    Sorry that you’ve felt that others have attacked you. As long as we’re keeping this fun and respectful and avoiding a “victim” mentality when people disagree then no worries. Bring on the LA shows next!

    See? this is where I start having a problem and start complaining...
    First of all, they're not "planning on doing that", no, they reserve the right to keep the same setlist, and the right to change it with no notice, they reserve the right to drop songs, add songs, or change songs.

    There's no conditionals in there, there's no "if they do that, then do this", nope.

    In the words of a great General: "I am altering the deal, pray I don't alter it any further".


    They thought the set list would work better (and it kinda did).
    Instead of "wasting" the big hit (BD) in the middle of lesser known songs, they placed it after warming it up with I Will Follow and Gloria, and imho it worked better.
    I do hope they find a way to place RFD back in the setlist, though.
