    You don't need to imagine it. There were lists of stadium dates circulating for quite some time in 2002 for a tour that never happened, and same for the 2005 indoor legs. And 2009-11. The rumour mill has been quite leaky for as long as I can remember it. Paul used to casually say "Oh, we'll see you next year then!" and things like that when talking to fans.
  3. Still think without new material the tour would be a retrospective step. Don't get me wrong I want the tour to happen but it would be strange unless it's a contractual obligation

    The only thing I can think of that U2 are changing their touring model : in the same way that Metallica now tour without albums and have only had - at most - a gap of a few months between shows for near enough the past 15 years and play about 40 shows a year every year, we may now be living in a touring model of "Little And Often" rather than "100 Shows A Year Then Four Years Off".


  5. We were told yesterday that the announcement hasn't been rescheduled yet. Haven't heard anything different today. I'm very doubtful when they say next week they mean Monday...not at this point. You're already into Friday morning in most of these areas, so the work week is almost over.

    I remember the 2010 leg in Australia as being very leaky as well. Well in advance of it being announced -- remember the koala video? -- most of the dates were known and had been shared on the internet. I'd planned my itinerary out to be able to do it all but by the time it had been announced flights were out of my price range...went to the UK instead and followed Arcade Fire around for a few months.

    This isn't totally accurate. Metallica is currently officially promoting Hardwired which was released on November 2016. The tour has expanded through more than two years but also had far more gigs than, for example, the 360° Tour (which also lasted two years)

    Right now, I'd find it hard to believe that U2 would go on tour in a retrospective way without new material. I bought the whole JT 30th Anniversary Tour but I just can't see that repeating again. At least not without including any songs of Experience. So I'd bet for a mix of JT + EI and hopefully a name other that JT 2019. Just my humble opinion

    I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped an EP and threw a few new songs into the set list they have been fairly unique among 80s band in so far as they've continued releasing and playing new music instead of solely playing 30 year old songs.
  9. There was part of me that thought a new song or 2 would be released as well, but I didn’t think the tour was going to be called Joshua Tree 2019 at that point. With that title I don’t think we’ll see anything new. I think the reason they’re doing JT again is because it was the easiest way to get back to Australasia. They wanted to play there but it had to be profitable so it couldn’t be ‘new’ it couldn’t be arena’s either, not enough in it taking E&I there, so they’re left with TJT stage and most of the TJT production, that’s my guess. Sometimes the artistic aspect isn’t the #1 priority, the band didn’t feel comfortable leaving it so long between visits and this is the easiest and most cost effective solution to get there (within the boundaries of a u2 show which still have to be big ie huge screen, they’re not going to play a club tour), that’s my guess. Plus I think the band will enjoy it more this way, it wont feel like so much work in what was supposed to be part of a break year if they go back and do something they’ve already perfected.

    I recall when JT2017 was announced, it was late in the work week.
