  1. I was happy to hear that ASOH was going to be played in 2017. But it Was quit a dull performance comparing with 1984/85. Especially the synth intro., apparently Edge could not played the intro on guitar anymore. You should call this lazy.
  2. Maybe because they were like 22-24 in 1984 and now they're pushing 60.

    And maybe having the intro part be a synth instead was just a stylistic choice. I honestly didn't think it was that bad, I just thought it was cool that they played it at all.
  3. The intro to ASOH is incredibly easy to play.. I'd wager it was a stylistic/laziness reason. I don't know quite how to describe it, but his playing isn't as tight or technical as it used to be... yeah, they are getting older, so who knows? I'm just grateful they're touring in any fashion at this point.

    Exactly.

    I don't know if I'd say his playing isn't what it used to be though. Yeah we have these examples that keep cropping up about how he's letting a backing track play his parts for him, but otherwise I'd say he's still as sharp as he used to be in terms of his playing.

    The live performances of newer songs like Raised by Wolves exhibit that pretty well, to me anyway.

    I think you are right, it is a stylistic reason and nothing else. I think it is actually kind of cool. Edge actually played the outro at a lot of shows, which is basically the old intro. So he could/can still play it, which leads me to believe it was a stylistic thing.


  6. Exactly, that was one of the points I was trying to make. They have "attempted" it once in Ireland since 1987 and it was a debacle as I said. Even on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 they played two nights at Croke. It was only played the first night and not the second night. Based on the history of the band live there is really no attachment of the song to Ireland.

    Whereas One Tree Hill is ALWAYS played in some fashion when they play New Zealand, even if the song was not played previously on a particular tour. Zoo TV was the only time it really was not done in full, but it was still snippeted at the end of One which was not done at any other show on the Zoo tour.

    I've tried to play Asoh on guitar and it's quite difficult to play properly.

  12. Not trying to toot my own horn, but if I can play ASOH easily on guitar, Edge should be able to do it in his sleep!

    The main riff during the verses is basically the same notes as Sunday Bloody Sunday, just played differently.
