    And Ali, that's a great vid you posted, sounded really good! Being one of those who wasn't aware you played guitar (although in saying that I should have worked that out after you asked about the chords Edge plays for So Cruel on the Milan 92 bootleg lol...) I'm very impressed!
  2. I play Guitar & Viola. I am one of the few people of whom play Viola in my School's Orchestra . I also play Guitar. I love that way more than Viola, as you could imagine. I've only been playing the guitar for a year or so, so I only have an acoustic for now. I was in a band for about 5 mins before we all (all being my friend on drums, and I) said screw it, we like listening to it alot more . Then, we re-started the band, tried writing a few things, but we never saw eye-to-eye with anything. I sang. I'm slowly, but surly losing my singing voice. I use to be able to do Edge's falseto part in "The Fly" really good about a month ago. Not happening again .

    Yeah, if you liked the sound, then no need to spend 2-3 times on a Gibson, just for the name. I probably couldn't hear the difference myself. Plus, the amount of playing I do, it just doesn't make sense for me to spend that much money on a "real" LP. I'd go with the epie....

    There is a quality difference in the Gibson vs. the Epiphone. That said, you can get a Epiphone LP for 500-600, swap out the pickups with some nice Burstbuckers or other quality replacements... and swap out the usually suspect tuners on the Epi... and have a great sounding and great playing Epiphone LP for less than that of a Gibson.

    The Epiphone 1956 reissue with the P-90 pickups being an exception. Other than having the guitar set up properly - it's good to go and the pickups sound great.

    I'm not doubting that there is a difference, but when you're a student who earns £18 a week (so I'm thinking that's about $30?) it's just not worth waiting to save up god knows how much for a Gibson when the quality isn't the be-all and end-all - half of it for me is the look and style of an LP (call me an aesthetic so-and-so if you will lol, I can take it!)

    Don't get me wrong, in an ideal world I'd simply love to get hold of a genuine Gibson LP BUT it isn't, university is on the horizon and I have to spend money on other stuff aswell, hence the Epiphone is the one for me not to mention it's handy to have my birthday coming up, it would be a conceivable idea. Ok, apparently the idea is to get me a laptop for Uni. next year, but I'm not even sure whether I am going to be needing one if I don't get into Uni. lol! At least with a guitar I know I'm going to have a definite use/need for it, and an Epiphone LP is within the bounds of realism. Couple that with the fact that judging by those I have played before, they're good enough for me (anything's an improvement over a Ridgewood Strat. with 3 singles lol...)...

    I understand. And if you DO get the Epiphone... they aren't horrible. But you can also upgrade them a bit and et voila... great sounding / playing guitar.

    The Epiphone `56 reissue goldtop Les Paul runs about $499.00 on Musician's Friend. Being an online store, no tax and free shipping. Not so shabby. That said, there is a black finish Epiphone `56 reissue that is ONLY $399.00. Both have the P-90 single coil pickups vs. humbuckers. The P-90's sound good and unlike the stock humbuckers on most Epiphone LPs - the stock P-90's are great and you won't feel the need to replace them.

    The exception to the Epiphone pickup rule? The Epiphone Slash signature Les Paul. It comes with the same Seymour Duncan pickups that the Gibson does and they sound great. I know, I have one.
  8. Check out the Mike Campbell signature. Best looking guitar ever. personally I'm planning on getting an Epiphone copy Joe Perry Boneyard signature when I get the cash. I got a friend who will teach me how to play for cheap.
