    I burnt a playlist the other day onto a CD I made for listening to in the car on the way up to Lincoln, but somehow I ended up with a Pete Doherty song instead of Breathe...wasn't impressed! I've already done Drew's thing as far as I can remember, so now I'm gonna have to get to work on your idea Dan - talk about tough lol...

It doesn't make any sense, it's declaring "Oh, man, this is the best stuff of our career, enjoy it" and ten minutes later "Oh, yes, we're recording our real masterpiece, the best album we've done"...     a) money
    b) coincide with the release of U2 by U2, i.e. giving fans something up-to-date to buy along with other merchandise etc.
    c) provided platform to release WITS and TSAC as part of a compilation á la Sweetest Thing (80s-90s Best Of) and Electrical Storm/The Hands That Built America (90s-00s Best Of) - arguably could also be beneficial to Music Rising i.e. including TSAC on the album would mean for each copy of U218 sold, a certain amount of profit (however minimal) goes towards MR, thus meaning more money goes towards MR than just the single sales alone (probably made more money too, I don't know how successful TSAC was as a single release but I know a lot more people with copies of U218 than aforementioned single...)
    d) release of compilation allows for a sort of consolidation before the next studio album release (seeing as we ended up with 5 years between HTDAAB and NLOTH, I'd say it did alright as a bit of a stop-gap lol)

  8. In a similar style with each song coming from the same album as the original song on 18 Singles, but a very unique list in that none have been released as part of The Best of 1980 - 1990, The Best of 1990 - 2000 and not on any remastered albums from memory that I can see.

    No tracks from No Line have been included because it wasn't released in 2006.

    The only ones I can see there are One Tree Hill which was a bonus track on The Best of 1980 - 1990 (in Japan only) but apart from that it follows the idea of a song from the same album. 18 Singles was just that - each song had been released or was to be released, as a single. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses and In God's Country, I think, were the only singles there. The rest are B-side tracks or only released on an album e.g. Rattle and Hum, Achtung Baby, Pop etc.

    And because I'm thinking of Greatest KISS (by KISS), it has to have a live track.
