1. Ichi The Killer (again). It still staggers me, no matter how many times I watch it. How on EARTH did this get made? I mean that in a good way, but Miike Takashi is clearly fucking nuts. And I mean THAT in a good way, too. There's extreme cinema and then there's Miike's output...

  3. I'm usually in agreement about that with the cartoons, but it was actually really good. Like Shrek or Toy Story in that there are a lot of jokes that probably whiz by the kids' heads, but us "adults" smirk and laugh at. Worth checking out if you get the chance.

  7. Try the book instead - absolutely brilliant. It's essentially a journalism piece, so attempting to make a linearly structured narrative was always going to be tricky. And as for the movie's mawkish sentimentality....
