1. There was a reason why Native Son was turned into Vertigo, to be better, and while NS has a raw feel to it, which in itself is pretty cool, Vertigo hands down for me.

  2. No contest, not even close, Vertigo is far more cohesive, Native Son is a work in progress and it shoes.

This just reminds me how much NLOTH needed a Vertigo.
  3. There both great songs! Vertigo is a polished rock song, fun to play loud or here live! Native Son is probably better lyrically and gives an interesting insight into song and album development.

We should all be happy U2 are so open with their music making process.
  4. I think Vertigo is better, the arrangement is definitely more polished.

They have too many political songs anyway, and Native Son is clunky.

Vertigo is a fun, groovy rock song (like GOYB hopes to be ) the lyrics contribute to this and are a perfect fit for the song.

And they're not bad lyrics either - far better than most pop songs, very evocative - sure it may not mean anything much, but it doesn't have to, that's not the nature of the song.

For example, love the imagery in this verse - it's very dancey

The night is full of holes
    As bullets rip the sky
    Of ink with gold
    They twinkle
As the boys play rock and roll
They know that they can't dance
    At least they know

    I can't stand the beats
    I'm asking for the check
    Girl with crimson nails
    Has Jesus 'round her neck
    Swinging to the music

Native Son on the other hand's lyrics don't seem to be complete and often make little sense

    Yeah, it's on the street
    It's under your feet
It's everywhere but if you're looking for free
    Don't look at me
    My enemy became my country

  5. Vertigo is better.
  6. I don’t know how to say this exactly, but I think the Vertigo lyrics fits better into the music, the rhythm of the words sounds more natural (but that’s maybe because I’m used to hear Vertigo instead of Native Son).
  7. Sorry if this wasn't the right place to post but does anyone have a good audio version of this:

I want it on my St> Paddy's Day playlist. I know I can rip it and I do have the DVD it is on I think butI didn't know if anyone had a good audio version.
  8. I was gonna say "I can rip the DVD for you" but then I read the final sentence I can do it anyway if you're too lazy, Kris!

I won't say I'm too lazy so much as I'm not sure how to rip the DVD like that haha... Were there other unplugged versions on there? It has been ages since I've watched.
