Hey now, you're not just dealing with an English chap here! Leave cricket alone!!!! We take great pride in being the best in the world at it (followed closely by whipping England whenever we get a chance) and more countries probably play it then baseball!

No offense intended! I'm completely ignorant of the sport, so i really can't make fun of it. I've always wondered why baseball doesn't adopt the flat bats--it seems so much easier than the skinny ones we've got. One of the many advatnages to cricket, I'm sure.
  3. While we're talking about sports....

    how about them Boston Celtics?

maybe not the best championship [basketball] ever, but in my lifetime its up there (nothing will top the Red Sox [baseball] winning in '04)

Friggin' awesome! Did you go to the parade today? I saw coverage of it on the news--a huge sea of green, everywhere. Awesome.

No offence taken trust me. While a flat bat is obviously easier to hit a ball with than a round one, it needs to be remembered that cricket bowlers bounce the ball on the pitch before it gets to the batsman which raises the degrees of difficulty significantly. Because the ball can bounce, it can also spin off the pitch which is not something you see in baseball.
  6. Cricket, baseball, Boston Celts...I swear a man can get lost if he leaves the thread for 5 bleeding minutes lol...

Interesting. So the bat sort of fits the way the pitcher pitches it. Sounds more difficult than I pictured it to be.

Must be exciting to watch as well. How big is cricket is Australia? If you guys are the best, I'm assuming it's nearly as big as soccer/football?

Excellent, my plan to confuse you is working.

While soccer/football is a religion in many countries, cricket is ours to a large extent. I guess our climate suits, it's heavily reliant on good weather for five days straight in the longer version of the game. It's our national sport. Give us a backyard, a bat and ball and we're all set. Many hours of enjoyment around the barbecue. But in India they're fanatical!

Harry, all you have to say to me is one word - Rugby - and that would put me in my place....

That's great. Much like our baseball here in the States (though some would argue American football is taking its place--i beg to differ. ).

Well, I'm off for tonight. Been a pleasure learning about cricket.

Also ben a pleasure tormenting you Harry, per usual.

    Have a great day/afternoon/nigh all!
  12. @ Nicole - stop toying with me!
@ Aussie - RUGBY! (although I have to say it took me a few seconds to work out why lol...

"Wilkinson kicks for world cup glory...!"

    Heh.)
