Nope, Harry means the lower English division (1st Division)..(might be mistaken though, never know the difference between those lower leagues). ManUtd - Roma is Champions League, same as Arsenal this eve. Clash of the champions, played trough a groupstage before getting into knock-out. ManUtd really are in top-form these days.

You're right about the Championship, in England we've got the Premiership (all the big well known clubs etc.), and then the Football League which is the next 3 divisions (Coca Cola Championship, " " League 1 and " " League 2, aka. the Fizzy Pop Leagues) and where my team Norwich are (the Championship), and then the "non-leagues", i.e. everyone else who isn't in the top 4 divisions - why they're non-league is beyond me because it's all still one fat old league pyramid lol.

You have one hell of a network of leagues which all build up to the Conference (at the moment sponsored by Blue Square, used to be Nationwide and Vauxhall before that). The other European leagues all work on a vaguely similar basis, and the Champions' League (a misnomer in itself) is made up of the top clubs across Europe, with 1-4 teams from each league qualifying depending on the status of their home country in world footy

I was messing around because fuck all people from the rest of the world hear or know about the Football League - everywhere you go with regard to English footy, it's Premiership Premiership Premiership, pisses most of the world off. In the UK, the media seem to forget everyone else except the Premiership, and that's including the SPL.

Like Casper says, these days money governs everything - teams without money go nowhere, which ruins the sport because the top clubs pick up the best players from the smaller clubs for (usually) relatively small fees because they have the bargaining power of a) being a big club in the Premiership and b) being able to offer big salaries to kick a ball about for 90 minutes at the weekend. In England, the sponsorship deals are so outsized that you get clubs promoted from the Football League to the Premiership winning what's essential prize money of up to £30m, and so when they (often) come straight back down because they can't hold their own in the top flight, they have shit loads more cash to spend than anyone else in the league and quite often go straight back up, making it all the more difficult for other clubs to a) get into the top flight and b) stay there, so a select few clubs just get richer and richer, whilst everyone has to make do with the scraps.

Great explanation! Not that interesting to know, but I sometimes follow the lower divisions. I played FIFA2004 with Nott's County and I am always interested in the results and stuff. Also great results in the FA Cup this year

I'm fan of a local footballclub here (3th Dutch division, called amateurs) so I'm kinda fond of the smaller clubs.

Unfortunately, British football is one of my fortés and I could talk about it for hours if provoked, but I wouldn't want to put you good people through it lol...thing is I have so many thoughts going through my head that I want to get them ALL down and then realise (too late) that it's not that important lol, but it's like tackling - if you go in halfhearted, you're more likely to get hurt Luckily this is a music forum rather than a sports one so there's not much chance of me going too far again lol...
