1. 1)Firstly is anyone expecting a U2 best of 2000-2010 album to follow tradition?

1a) If so would that just include songs from the HTDAAB album and the one they are currently working on? Because songs from the ATYCLB album (2001) were used in the best of 1990-2000 album (not being picky honestly )

    2) Since the 1990-2000 album which included HTBA and HMTMKMKM all of which are soundtracks and are not on any album as is Electrical strom (I think), and despite the vertigo tour taking a lot of time, they haven't made any soundtrack songs yet to feature on the 2000-2010 album.

    3) Any opinons about the 1990-2000 album? I think its a good album, but there are so many great songs left out (could be better)

    4) When U2 release Best Ofs albums they apparently release an edition of it with the best b-sides of that era. Are the Best of and b-side album released on the same date as the regular best of, cos I always seem to not notice it?

    5) There has been dicussion before about our favourite compilations, but I have to say that the Best of 1980-1990 record is such a strong collection of songs and it sounds coherent. To me this is the best official compilation.

    6) Do people regard the Passengers album as an Official U2 album? WHat do you think of that album?

  2. lots of stuff to answer. No times to give my 2 cents jyust now but I shall throw an opinion or 2 in later

I hope not, and I don't expetc it. Moreover, I read somewhere that U2 had signed a contract with Island, saying that they'd have to release 3 Best Ofs, and this point has been filled (80-90, 90-00 and U218). So don't think so.

One correction: I've seen so many times that it was wrong to include ATYCLB's songs in the 1990-2000 compilation; well, it's absolutely right. All That You Can't Leave Behind was released in October 30th 2000.

They've done the Beatles covers, and this are actually part of a soundtrack. Anyway, in the case there is a 00-10 compilation, I don't think that tracks will appear on it.

Anty compilation is good, specially when there are 12+10+12+11 tracks (Achtung, Zooropa, Pop, Leave Behind). Tryin to fit 45 tracks in a 16' CD is frenzy crazy. Too bad.

There are "special editions" of the Best Ofs which feature the B-Sides I think. Not every editons have them, alhough I'm not 100% sure about this point. They're released the same day, but the B-Sides COmpilations have a higher price (of course) and I think there are less units sold.

I can't help agreing there. It's the best compilation, altough I would have choosen another order for the songs. This would be my order: 1) Streets - 2) Pride - 3) NYD - 4) SBS. After that, any order until 17) All I Want Is You - October (I think it's a easter egg, only a few editions had October as a hidden track after All I Want), which would finish the compilation.

I don't like it at all. For me, it's not a U2 album.

See you. If you don't understand any point or there are mistakes, I'm sorry. I have written it very quick because I'm having lunch in 2 minues!
  4. 1)/1a) Wouldn't surprise me if there was a Best Of 2000-2010 in the future. But the again, as you mentioned, there isn't much material for that. I tend to say no, but who knows?

    2) Yep, no (new) soundtrack songs since 2002 (The Hands That Built America). Only a few Bono collaborations.

    3) It's always hard to please everyone. ( I don't give a fuck about these Best Ofs anyway )

    4) Special/Limited Editions (with the B sides) were released a week before the regular edition. I can't remember, but that's what U2wanderer says.

    5) see 3)

    6) I see it as U2 album. Same members as on many other releases. But I can see why many people don't call it a U2 album.

I think it's a really cool album. I'd rate it higher than 3 other U2 albums.
  5. they have :

    Elevation
    Walk On
    Vertigo
    City of Blinding Lights
    Original of the Species
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
    Instant Karma
    I Am the Walrus
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
    Window In The Skies

if u wanna get desperate the duets :

Don't Give Up (Africa) - with Alicia Keys
that one song with Tony Bennett
The Saints Are Coming with Green Day
and a couple more I am forgetting

    and the new album

yea there is probably enough songs but that would be kind of pointless

and maybe a new song for the best of in tradition with Sweetest Thing, Electrical Storm and Windows/?????

idk i dont mind i gues..

Those are Bono only. I don't think they'd qualify for a U2 Bestof.

yea true but if they get really desperate and need songs they know where 2 go
  8. 1) Yes, I expect a best of 2000-2010 album. In fact, I'm looking forward to it. I love the best ofs.

1a)Yes, it would just be HTDAAB/New album, plus probably WITS and TSAC. That's just my guess. Here's what I see for the Best Of 2000-2010.

    1. Vertigo
    2. The Saints Are Coming
    3. Mercy(Believe me, this will be on the next album)
    4. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
    5. Smile
    6. Some Other new material
    7. City Of Blinding Lights
    8. Love And Peace Or Else
    9. Instant Karma!
    10.New Material
    11.New Material
    12.All Because Of You
    13.New Material
    14.Original Of The Species
    15.Yahweh
    16.Window In The Skies

    2)I agree with LikeASong

3)I love it, but don't understand the tracklist. I agree with you, a lot of good tracks. Here's what I would've had.

    1.The Fly
2.Even Better Than The Real Thing
    3.Mofo
    4.Gone
    5.Lemon
6.Until The End Of The World
7.Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
    8.Zooropa
    9.Babyface
    10.Discotheque
    11.Beautiful Day
    12.One
    13.Mysterious Ways
    14.Elevation
    15.HMTMKMKM
    16.Walk On

4)See LikeASong's answer. I'm still trying to get a hold of the B-Sides edition myself.

5)I agree, it really is the best collection out there. If U218 was a little different, then that would be the best album, but 1980-1990 is a great, strong album.

6)I consider it a "Side project" or a "Solo project" that they were all involved in. Other than Miss Sarajevo and Your Blue Room, I hate it.

    Yep, I think so.

Yeah, and maybe the album that comes in 2010/2011.

No. I think the Spiderman-musical-soundtrack will be on it.

    3) Any opinons about the 1990-2000 album? I think its a good album, but there are so many great songs left out (could be better)
No, really not good. the album misses Please, maybe the best song of the 90's.

    4) When U2 release Best Ofs albums they apparently release an edition of it with the best b-sides of that era. Are the Best of and b-side album released on the same date as the regular best of, cos I always seem to not notice it?
No, the B-sides will be released later on.

I agree. It really is the best. I could not have made it better myself. All the best songs are on it.

    6) Do people regard the Passengers album as an Official U2 album? WHat do you think of that album?

It isn't U2. This really has to be an other band Only Miss Sarajevo and Your Blue Room are great tracks.

  10. Hey, Angel_or_Devil...What are your answers?

Anyone read that point? The contract of making 3 Best Of compilations was filled with U218. So don't expect a new compilation, or at least no in the known format (Best Of xxxx-xxxx, etc). Maybe a special disc, more as U218 than as the other Best Ofs.

*LikeASong, you're absolutly right ATYCLB was relaesed late 2000 and not 2001. My mistake.

*I would have liked songs like Zooropa, Babyface and Lemon on the 1990-2000 record, but hey yes you can't please everyone. If someone asked me about u2's music between 1990-2000 I wouldn't give that album to them as a stepping stone. I would have to lend them all the individual albums because the variety in the albums are so great.

    * I haven't heared the Passengers album. I have only just become aware of it, so I can't comment on this point.

    * I don't really understand why U2 released U218 when they did, perhaps (thinking out loud) they will release their next album but not have any singles off it. Tour the album and then god forbid retire, so U218 singles stays intact. Then they could release one multi disk greatest hits record.

I wouldn't put it past them making a best of 2000-2010, they seem to be capatilising on every opportunity. Oh and things would happen quicker if Bono turned away from writing songs for the Spice Girls. Who knows what they will do next eh..........

    * When they do retire (a bit off topic I know) I reckon Bono will turn to politics, Edge would continue within the music industry as he his very passionate about it (perhaps producing, or setting up a recording studio/label etc), Adam will revel in his success and create his own Playboy mansion. Become surrounded by women as he lounges around in his dressing gown smoking cigars between other stuff. . Not sure what Larry would do, perhaps retire gracefully or set up a motor or property business.
