  1. Been listening to JT over the last few days in bed - that was some amazing singing he could do then. Ok, I wasn't so cracked up with the JT tour and his singing, but for the album he absolutely nailed it - just listen to Streets or WOWY, One Tree Hill etc.

    If you can't be blown away by those vocals, you have no soul!

    Elevation, really? have you seen the Slane dvd? I was just watching that and marveling in how well i thought he sounded, the whole band for that matter. top notch

    Yeah, all the way through. That's one of the better Elevation nights, but it's still pretty flat and featureless, at least to me.

    POPmart tho with the exception of a few shows (Leeds & Santiago, etc.)

    im not sure about Vertigo and Elevation. for me sometimes he was great.sometimes sh**e
  7. I think he had the best vocal range and voice during the Unforgettable Fire period. If you listen to Bad from Live Aid or if you watch the little Slane Castle Recording sessions off of the elevation slane dvd, he's just amazing. Also following into the amnesty tour.

    Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum were also amazing, his voice sounded amazing during still havent found with the choir. Maybe it was his voice when he was experimenting with gospel, but his voice was just awesome there also.

    Zootv he had a good voice, but I didn't like the way he sang some of the songs. Example, a lot of the times when they did Bad, the "wide awake" part was done with sort of a falsetto, it wasn't him belting it out giving it his all, he was sort of wimping out on it.

    Worse is definitely Pop, and ever since then he has been getting better. Hopefully.
  8. His voice on Uf was amazing, when he sings ASOH you realy hear that he has learned how to use his voice. He expermented alot with it. On the Amnesty his voice was very good.
    On Jt tour he had lost a bit, he had to strain his voice alot to sing the Wide Awake part on Bad, but he didnt manage to hit the high C.
    On Lovetown his voice went more deep, but also a bit hoarse sound in the background of his voice came in. He gave his all on that tour. The story behind the soundboard recordings of the Dublin shows was that Bono recorded them for a doctor for use to analize his singing. After the doctor had listen to it he gave Bono a warning that if he contiunie to sing like that he would destroy his voice.

    On ZooTV you could realy hear that his voice had taken damage by all the screaming and straining in the 80's and specialy LT tour. I think alot of people overrate his voice on ZooTV tour. Sure his falsetto was amazing, but he couldnt sing ISHFWILF that good any more. The same with BAD, when he tried to hit the Wide Awake part he had to strain his voice or use the falsetto. He didnt hit the High C.

    In 94,95 and 96 his voice was still good but you could hear that his voice was a bit shaky and the Popmart, well his voice wasnt the best. In 98 Bono did a throat surgey, after a surgey it takes years for the voice to get better. In 98 when Bono recorded Slide Away with Michael H. you realy could hear that it was one of his weakest voice ever. On ATYCLB his voice was almsot the same a bit better but not that strong. On Elevation tour his voice went better for each day.

    The first song to show that Bono's voice was on its way to the better was Electrical Storm.
    But Vertigo tour and specialy the the last 5th leg was one of his better. He hit the high C in Wide Awake on alot of Bad performences(he dint on JT/LT/ZOOTV). High C on WGRYWH. He holded notes in 11 seconds. He holded the chours in Pride(never done before), he hit an high E5 in falsetto... If you see in high notes and long holded notes, Vertigo tour is his best ever. And also the union chapel show. Wow!

    The high Wave note in WOS are another good example of a powerful sound Bono would never in the 80's and the 90's be able to get.

    I didn't like his voice much on Rattle and Hum (and for that matter, Joshua Tree tour), he was going halfway between classic rocky growl and gospel, and for me it didn't work - I just don't like that grunty-ness he tried to put on - too much listening to the blues

    EDIT- just listened to Heartland again - OH MY SAINTED FUCKING TROUSERS! What a vocal performance...

    There where never a whole original, Bono finished it lst year. Bono woulnd be able to get that powerful sound back then.

    As for notable performances, in hindsight he was pretty damn good on Lovetown and on the Slane DVD (apart from Walk On) - nothing like a gargly intro...
