  1. It most certainly is. The 2nd gen uses new hardware and software code, so the only possible chance to do it is with hardware replacement. For those unsure what generation they have, this will help them out.


    iPhone / iPhone 3G is grey on the back, not silver. 3G was released in 2008, 1G released in 2007





    iPod touch 1G has no controls on any side, only standby button on top and home button on front, released in late 2007






    iPod touch 2G has controls on the left-hand side, released in 2008

    Agree about the numbness to a certain extent but only with long periods of times on games. Depends on the thumb size I guess....

    ...no,Sir.I'm with you,I'm too scared to bugger around with it so I'll leave it as is.I tried the old putting in the address thingy to play flash videos but I must be completley stupid,it never works for me.I just have a good look at the site I mentioned before see what tickles my fancy.Depends on the thumb size for what ? For the size of....keep it clean it's a family website,we've got 13 & 14 year old kids here..... Still want an iPhone though,but I've 6 months to go on my contract,a wee bit expensive to get a jailbroken one of those at the minute.

    Alright...BACKUP FIRST - All music, bookmarks, videos, whatever. This cannot be stressed enough.

    - Then install and open QuickPwn and plug in your touch and make sure it's charged to at least 50%.

    - Click the Next arrow.

    - Choose your iPod type - not iPhone or 3G, obviously.

    - Click to install only Installer and Cydia - don't worry too much about Boot Logos - unless you want to. They just look tacky.

    - Then you'll have to put into device firmware upgrade mode. It tells you how to do this and walks you right through the DFUing process.

    - The iPod should restart and in about two shakes of a lamb tail, you should be Jailbroken. Everything will be back at default, but it can all be re-synced over afterwards.


    Thanks. That all makes sense. Do I need this Installer and Cydia stuff - is it a download too?
    What happens once it's jailbroken?

    I've heard that Macbooks don't allow iPods to go into DFU mode, so this may be a Mac Mini job.

  5. Hmmmmmm...the new Macbooks supposedly circumvent DFU mode (I haven't tried it myself for obvious reasons), but likely because of all the Apple legal crap. It may well be a mini job then.

    When it's jailbroken, it still lets you use iTunes, the default apps and the App Store - I still do, and pretty much opens up the entire iPod to access to install third-party themes, games and other apps like that, and if need be you just restore it and no trace of modding about will ever be known by Apple, unless you tell them.

    You sure you want to do it?

    It looks like you can hide or restrict only Safari, Explicit, YouTube, iTunes and Installing Apps. Or hold and drag them off to another screen if you want as well.


    Settings > General > Restrictions > Passcode > Toggle > On / Off

Press and hold down any icon,they should start to move,then slide whatever you want to move to your right onto a second page.To stop or finish the icons "wiggling" just press the Home button on the front.You can move the icons around as well into whatever order you want ie,Safari 1st,Settings 2nd etc....

    Absolutely. You can't 'hide' them as such though, no. Unless you do what Drew does.

    And I'm panicking over doing!!

    So where do you get your themes from Drew? Is that what Cydia is?

    Cydia is like an App Store with all themes, icons, lockscreens, status bars etc...so pretty much I may download three or four themes, apply each one, see what looks the best and make an entirely new theme based around those three or four themes. That particular one above, I think, uses a wallpaper from some website and the icons come from a theme called Normal. And I also use MakeItMine to change the iPod text to something else in the corner, as well as a tap-battery to tell me the percentage left or the battery icon - which I coloured black, rather than the red and green.

    I can't post a shot of my lock screen (don't know how, yet!) but it has a small plugin to show current weather and weather status e.g. cloudy, sunny, partly cloudy. That's another cool add-on. I hide apps with an app called Poof - that's actually integrated into a seperate module below as well as SSH, WiFi toggle and brightness.

  10. Is that even with the EU restrictions? It is a bloody loud thing - it uses a different audio chipset (Wolfson) than what the classic uses (Cirrus Logic).

    Yep mine is restricted but massively loud. As loud as my 4th gen.

    Found another more major fault. It skips when playing apple lossless files!!! Whats that all about
