  5. so I've decided I'm going for the iPhone, and I have TMobile...with the help of YouTube and a few other sites I should be good. My TMobile Dash is good...but I just think the iPhone's better. Any thoughts? Should I wait for SDK?

    I'm gonna state the obvious and ask what's better than what you've got now...what makes it more worthwhile?

    I guess if you wanna start making some money and get your name out there, go for the SDK. That'd be my only reasons for it. Not really into the SDK for development sake. After BASIC, I gave up on programming. I still do scripting every now and then and writing small apps, but not as often as I used to.

    And you've gotta still stick to Apple's guidelines, which are pretty tight. They're still comparatively closed compared to Google or Palm. Which is kind of annoying, because I've seen some devs with some great, great apps who weren't allowed to release it in the App Store. Chances are what you want to do, seriously, will be restricted in one way or another by The Man.

    Wait it out for 3.0 and if you like the SDK and supposedly the new phone they're bringing out, then by all means go for it.

    They could start by getting rid of the Stocks app. That's only there, I think, for the Apple diehards (fanboys, if you will) to show their friends how much the stocks for Apple went up when they introduce copy and paste and MMS, plus video recording and a higher-quality camera, all on a touch screen. I guarantee their friends have copy and paste, video recording, higher-quality camera and MMS, without a stocks app.

    Fun fact: the audience applauded and cheered when copy-paste was announced at the 3.0 preview.

    Fun fact 2: the iPhone is $999 pre-paid. Are they joking?

    The TMobile Dash is alright, but because I have an iPod Touch I would be more used to it.

    By SDK I meant the 3.0 and the like, and by no means am I that good at programming nor have I attempted it.

    I would love to stick by Apple's guidelines as much as a cat being in the water. On ipodtouchfans.com they showed that Apple hacked their own iPod. So what's good for them isn't good for me? I know some stuff will be restricted, but I've done some research:

    - My 5 favs plan doesn't show up, however the 5 favs would still be a free call under their contact number on the phone.
    - yellowsn0w should help me out with the unlocking bit
    - jailbreaking and basing the jailbreak off of the touch

    some issues:

    - if i wait for 3.0, there has to be a 3.0 jailbreak done. this means i would have the iphone, however useless until the technology to unlock it and jailbreak it comes available. my question to that is...have they already accomplished this?

    to anyone who's bought the iPhone, when you first turn it on at home, does it say you need the SIM to activate? can it be jailbroken and work in that state?
  11. YellowSnow will do the unlocking no problem. What do you mean by that first and third point - I didn't quite understand them.

    There is a jailbreak for 3.0; problem being that most apps have to be re-written to be compatible. Which is a pain but it happens with all new releases of software - dependent on how it is coded, most things just won't work or cause errors. From what I'm hearing, none of the stuff like WinterBoard is compatible. Cydia is, I think, but not much else. And if you do upgrade, it's a pain in the arse getting back to your original software (2.2.x).

    Wouldn't we all? But what do you mean by that second bit - I'm a little confused at 2.30am. Anyway, just ask as much as you want here and I'll try and answer them later on when I'm a little more awake and not dead to the world.

    Oh yeah, there's four updates for Cydia which you might be interested in if you have them installed.


  12. Still expensive for mere mortals though. Stripped down version would make economic sense. But Apple have never targeted the 'cheaper' market
