The only time I've ever seen that message after installing iTunes is when I delete the desktop shortcut.
To completely remove iTunes / iPod from Windows

1. Create a System Restore Point (Computer >Right-Click Properties > System Protection > Create).

2. Backup your iTunes folder in your My Music (Windows 2000 - XP) or Music (Vista).

3. Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs (Windows 2000 - XP) or Programs and Features (Vista).

4. Remove Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iTunes and QuickTime.

5. Delete all Apple and iTunes-related folders in Program Files and check for hidden folders too.

6. Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to make sure everything relating to Apple has been removed.

7. Click Start > Run and type services.msc and see all Apple-related services have been deleted (Bonjour, Apple Software Update and Apple Mobile Support).

8. Restart your computer and try re-installing iTunes again, using the original iTunes Installer from Apple. If you need to, get the latest version from Apple.

Thanks Drew! I'll try it out! I'll report back later
2. Just a small tip for foobar2000 fanatics:

You can add another filter which lets you filter the DB on the codec type. Lossy / Lossless is an interesting filter to have.

To do this:
1. Create a new filter in your Column UI layout. Position it where you like. Now
2. Go to the Filter settings
3. Add a new filter rule according to the screenshot below. You can name it whatever you like though.

Invalid url 'http://'

Now will you have a filter with 'Lossy' and 'Lossless' If you rather have a list where you choose from MP2/MP3/ALAC/FLAC use %codec% in the field settings of the specific filter.

Also you can sort the results more logically by filling %album artist%|%album%|%tracknumber% into the Sort incoming files by field

If there is interest i will post more tips in the future
3. oops...wrong topic...

in the meantime, anyone know about the release of the new iphone yet?

4. yea. It will be specced like a phone from 2007

5. Lol, I hope so. I was planning on getting a Pre, unless the iPhone 3 trumps it in spec.
6. Finally getting my ipod replaced tuesday.
7. Also for Foobar if you want a good status bar with lots of useful info:

Encoded with $info(tool) | %codec% %bitrate%kbps '('%codec_profile% $info(encoding)')' | %samplerate%Hz %channels%

The iPhone 3.0 OS and new models are meant to have the following:

120 gb, video classic. Great ipod but the hard drive is broken/defective. Apple has a pretty sweet customer service-I just go in around tuesday to swap it.

If they've got it in stock, then it's pretty quick and easy. If not....

I've got one of the classics, and it's not bad - but 80GB - I haven't filled up even 6GB of it yet.

10. I also just did a count today and only have 6 gigs of music, I have no idea how people fill up 80 gig ipods with just music (let alone listen to that much music)

It's very hard to argue with such people on the merits of u2 as well.

Mine's full, with just music.

And I know you don't find me hard to argue with on the merits of U2....
