Oh yeah and a new keyboard layout too, which is pretty cool-looking and better than the Apple one.

Sounds cool! I'll have to give it a look. I want to update mine soon, the Coldplay art (it appears only on the vinyl, not sure if I uploaded it or not) is getting old.

    Sweet.

    It's OS 3.0 they're struggling with now...

3.0 OS is jailbroken and so is the 3GS as of last week. Just make sure you update to the very latest MobileSubstrate in Cydia if you're running any one of those - but you have to use RedSn0w now or you'll get a black screen of death. QuickPwn as far as I'm aware is discontinued. Essentially the same hole used from the 1.x firmware right through to 2.2.1 is what allows the jailbreak to push through and let you install unsigned apps.

iFile allows you to browse your iPod and edit system files and view PDF and other sorts of files - kind of like the most important app on there. All I know is until my core apps are working 100% and the battery isn't draining far too quickly, 3.0.1 comes out soon, then there won't be an upgrade just yet - chances are I'll have a new touch by then.

Sorry if I am interrupting...I will selfishly just ask my question
Could any of you guys refer me to a free and useful Adobe (Macromedia) Flash tutorial/guide? I mostly want to learn about making animations, but I am also interested in the other uses.

Not at all Ali. There's some on adobe.com I think I saw, but none overly comprehensive. About your best bet is to join a Macromedia forum and use their tutorials. They know all about it far better than I ever could.

Ok so I might be buying the iPhone sometime soon, the 3G S. How exactly would I have to hack it? Next question is about phones overall: I read your story about your unlocked phone, do those work better than locked ones?

    I think this is it.

They work better than locked ones because you don't have to have the operator stuff on it plus you can go to any network you like. That's pretty much it.

Alright, this is my theme that I use. The keyboard will be coming soon...

And...you have to get your own wallpaper too.

  6. Sweet! I'll check it out with that new keyboard as soon as it's upped.

    For the theme?

  7. The keyboard is here.

I have the theme at the top then the keyboard below in Winterboard.

I'll get it uploaded right now. Hold up...

Ah, it still must be something...I haven't used a different keyboard on mine yet, I actually haven't tinkered with it in a while...hmmm

The fun never stops. When you see it you'll notice how much I hate the default interface.

You use SBSettings too, don't you? I've got a theme for that too. I can't do much with the pinstripe background and the button and switches, but the rest...

Haha I hate the default too, it's just way too generic.

Of course! I think there are themes out there were everything is fully changed over, that's something I'd love to do with mine.

I can see Apple's reasoning for not allowing you to access the system and change the look or modding the default apps - it'd cause way too many headaches - absolutely understandable from a development point of view for a big company, and people would blame Apple when for once it's not their problem. Could you imagine the support calls? I wouldn't blame Apple if they did introduce it and then remove it to give their support staff their sanity back.

The thing that annoys me is that all the themes are looking the same. There's no real creativity and artistry going on any more. People are putting out themes that look identical to the last one and the one after and so on. What I'm using was and is still very popular, and I like the look of simplicity and transparency, when it's done right.

You've just gotta spend a while playing with it and then trial and error. The great thing about theming (and Winterboard) is that it can be kept to one area and if something doesn't look right, then you don't have to spend hours looking for a system file or asking questions.

Of course what could be amazing is if Computer programs could work on the iPod Touch, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. Transfering files from the computer to the Touch and vice versa, would be neat too. Do they already have these?

Also, while YouTube vids can be streamed on the iPod, what about others? Is it the Adobe Shockwave or Adobe Flash Player or both that aren't compatible with the iPod?

The Touch could be a handheld computer before we know it, possibly. As for theming, that's only the start of what can be done, I think.

I hear ya. I haven't checked out the latest themes on ipodtouchfans, but from what you're saying, they all are very similar. A personal theme, however, isn't what seems to be popular. An example of creativity is replacing an app icon with an album/single/EP cover. For example, my work-in-progress theme has the Fix You EP cover as the Settings app. I guess another thing that I haven't seen yet is 3-D app logos. With the technology, it's possible. Imagine a U2 360 theme with 3-D icons and a color themed music player? Dream out loud...if only people did the same...
