  1. Some models use to be able to run Rockbox. A custom media player that can do all kinds of stuff.

  4. I fancy an iPod touch for game and videos etc. It has to do music though and i'm not converting anything to be compatible. Apple can go fuck in that case. Might just get a new Sansa Clip for music though. Decisions decisions
  5. Phones can do videos and games a lot better than most media players these days. Samsung has phones that can playback 720p mkv files

    With Apple you'll have to convert or download in the compatible formats (AAC audio, h264 video in mp4 container etc)

    I'm back on the E71 which isn't ideal for audio or video. Not planning on a new super phone just yet so the iPod touch looks ideal. Converting video doesn't bother me as I don't have that much but I do have a lot of audio. Hopefully somebody comes up with a FLAC plugin for the new models.

    I'd rather put my 200 quid into some other device if I can't listen to music on it though.
  7. Suppose I could pick up a 3rd gen iPod touch and save a few quid. The retina display is nice but it's a bit gimmicky, as is the camera.
  8. Dont know much about Apple, but Im sure there are media players for it that can play FLAC. But maybe not one using the main interface

    It's not so much the media. I want something for browsing the net around the house without having to sit at the PC. The E71 is a great phone and for web out and about for not much else. Netbooks are too slow and tablets are too expensive. iPod Touch seems a good go between and I always have the Sansa for music if I can't get the touch to do flac.

  11. It's the way forward. Shall pick up one of the new Symbian 3 devices from Nokia around Christmas. That will do until they start plugging Meego. . .
  12. Why is everyone so interested in getting FLACs on their iPods. I mean it's the equivalent of putting a HD 1080p video on your phone, it's just a waste of space. Lossless should be left to the purpose of archiving CDs.

    Lossless is hugely overrated as well, just like $200 HDMI cables - the vast majority of people (99.99%) will not be able to hear a difference between the lossless and a high quality vbr rip and that's with high end headphones/ sound system - with most headphones it wouldnt make a difference.

    I'm quite surprised that most of the bootlegs up here are also uploaded in lossless - it is major overkill as the source (eg. the recording equipment) will in no way do justice to the resolution of the lossless format (ie. it's not professionally mastered in a studio like CDs). What should be of more concern is changing all the MP3 format bootlegs to VBR instead of CBR encodes - as that actually will make a difference in quality that people can actually hear.
