    It's not particularly difficult. I'll throw a few links in later. Essentially you will be installing a different build on Android to the phone that's much lighter, efficent and faster. It gets rid of all of the Orange boosts that's installed too. It takes around twenty no.it's a to do. A few lines of text into a command prompt window is the height of it.

  3. Nothing like being able to flash your phone or tablet so it gets rid of all the bloat. I have the S7 tablet (Ideos) and before with the Telstra stuff, it was so slow and I had no need for it. Then I flashed it with a custom ROM - an unsupported one, and it's actually responsive now and works with the naked finger properly rather than using the stylus.


  6. Under? For battery? I think it all depends on whether the manufacturer of the device leaks a kernel source that depends on how much the hacker scene takes it on. The Desire S has barely been touched in terms of ROMS. Patiently waiting as i'm using a network branded phone full of bloat.

    It's running an unsupported Huwaei 2.2.2 ROM (so no bloatware unless you count some pre-bundled apps) as it was never going to be updated anyway but that's what I was wondering. As I'm getting about 2.5 hours out of it at decent use, I wanna clock it back to maybe 25% less and get more battery life. It's really the screen size that does it because it's so fucking big.

    Although not always desirable, never underestimate how much battery you can save by dimming the screen by even 10%. It may look dim straight away but your eyes will adjust and the battery should improve considerably.
  9. I've eventually took the step, and updated my Windows XP to Windows 7. I've ran W7 for months on the university computers and I liked it much better than Shitsta Vista (I never had Vista on any of my computers, I kept going with my old XP), so I decided to upgrade to W7. So far so good. Gotta love the general look, so clean and all.

    PS. I still keep Linux as a security backup OS, though
  10. Undervolting helps a bit. But power management features help a bit more. On my phone i enabled some extra features which are unstable for some. But my idle battery usage is 20-30% less, but no difference under load.

    Sergio, great you switched! I am running Win7 for a long time now. Best OS ever. Only have a Ubuntu virtual machine, but dont use that really. I know as a nerd i should shit over all MS products, but i really wont
  11. Yep, it looks great, runs great and shits all over previous Windows versions, even XP (their best until 7 appeared). I just wasn't too keen on the simple fact of having to set up a whole new bunch of configuration and customization features I guess I'm too lazy even in the computer world hahahaa...

    Linux can be VERY useful, I swear it. Even if it's just a virtual machine or a boot CD, it can save you lots of pain and grief

    And yeah, I disagree about the nwerd stuborness agains Microsoft. Sure they have done a lot of damage to the computer world, but they also have done very good things. And not all their products are bad - Windows 7 is a great example!
  12. True, the latest Ubuntu is a good OS as well. Just doesnt feel as finished as Windows. And its butt ugly.

    Weak point of windows is still the lack of a central installation and update system. Maybe the Windows 8 Marketplace will bring some change, but I doubt it will be as good as good old apt-get.
