1. Nice indeed. I am keen to try the N8 out in a concert setting. With a steady hand I recon it would do a good job. Records in stereo too.

Advice: do NOT sing along. N8's "stereo" is more of a front+back stereo, so it picks up the stage sound in one channel and the sound behind the phone (=you) in the other. I have tried it at several -small- concerts and it becomes somewhat of a Band X (left channel) + Sergio (right channel) recording But if you can stay quiet enough, it becomes a powerful recording device. Mics don't saturate too early (you have to be very close to the PA and/or at a insanely high volume concert) and image quality is as good as you already know.
  3. Anyone know how to open docx files? Running XP and old as shit Word so new documents and unable to be opened. Need to edit and print these documents so viewers aren't much use.
  4. MS has a import plugin for docx documents for older word versions (at least for version 2003)
  5. Seriously? Why didn't I think of something that simple haha I guess it'd just be on the MS site as a download?
  6. Yep. Microshit site has something called "Compatibility Pack" -or the like- which enables you to edit and print new formats in old versions of Office.

Nevertheless, the wisest thing would be 'buying' Office 2010, works like a charm and has some amazing features that Office 97 and 03 could only dream of. PM if neccesary.
  7. Office is quite cheap. 90 euro's for 3 pcs.
  8. Are you still rocking the N900 Chris. Thinking of picking one up used.
  9. I am going for a different phone in January. There is nothing coming from Nokia anymore. There are still some modders / hackers active, we got 720p video recording last month. Plus 720p playback (which doesnt work as well as the recording). There is also a community firmware which added portrait support and numerous fixes. So enough of modding going on.

But the n900 is seriously lacking mainstream apps (like Whatsapp). Even Ovi Maps is crippled on N900 (no spoken directions, etc). That is my main motivation for a new phone.

It really is a shame, Maemo has lots of interesting concepts. First real multitasking phone i owned and that works perfectly fine. Too bad Nokia pulled the plug before even releasing it.
  10. I know what i'd be buying into. Mainly just want the different form factor for a little while. Android still bores me so not interested in taking that route agai but do fancy a second device. WP7 not quite there yet, even with Nokia hardware......
  11. Keep in mind that the N900 is more than 2 years old now. New phones would perform better.

I am not sure what to do. Cheap android/WP7 or 2nd hand beast.
