Sorry for spoiling your party, but they're just physically different. Desktop computers' RAM memories are longer (DIMM standard, 100, 168, 184, or 240 pins) and laptop RAMs are shorter (SO-DIMM, 72, 100, 144, or 200 pins), and more expensive too. A desktop memory won't fit in a laptop and viceversa. There are adaptors to use a laptop module in a desktop slot, but they're probably worth more than a brand new desktop memory...
