    iTunes doesn't let you use FireWire...when I connect the iPod, it says on the iPod screen that you can't do file transfer with FireWire...but I did see a software that would let you do it...anyways, tough question I guess
  3. You would think, considering it has the same 30-pin plug connector.

    But it doesn't, and that software would probably work only with other models. For the new models, it makes pretty poor business sense for Apple because lots of people still use FireWire for doing other stuff, and it's almost twice as fast as USB2.

    For the sake of interest, USB3 is coming in early 2009 which won't have speeds of 480Mbps it will have rough speeds of 4800Gbps, so you can use USB3 devices (not USB2) at about ten times the speed of what you get now. That's why USB devices are coming down in price so quickly. But towards the end of this year and 2009, you'll see Wireless USB at the same speeds as USB2, so that's even better again.



    Back to the FireWire question...

  5. Drew (or anyone else who can help me!)-

    I'm trying to figure out the best way for me to hook my laptop up to my TV so I can watch streaming sports events on it. I went to Radio Shack (terrible, I know) today, and the salesgirl tried to sell me a piece of crap converter for $100 bucks. Is there an easier way to do it?

  6. Radio Shack...some great experiences of no service down there.

    Now, on a Dell laptop - though it's usually all the same - to a standard fat-back TV, called a CRT, you can use an S-video cable, which is probably what she tried to sell you and would be the best idea. From the photos, it looks like you have S-video to S-video on both the TV and laptop - the small little black round connector.

    That's probably the only way to do so from looking at the back of the TV.

    As well, you need to check for the S-Video whether it has four or seven pins. If it has four pins, seven pins obviously won't work and vice versa.

    Nope, just straight S-video to S-video. That looks like the go, but any good store should sell a 7-4 cable.

    Well, unlike K-Mart or Target, it focuses strictly on electronics and the like. Here in the US, you can buy clothes, snacks, garden supplies, and DVDs at K-Mart & Target....Best Buy doesn't carry that other stuff. Just electronics.
  12. When I come to the US...first stop is gonna be Best Buy. There's others like Big-W (kinda like Wal-Mart) where they sell lots of assorted crap, plus lots of electronics stuff.

    We've got an IKEA near AAMI Stadium where U2 played in 2006 as well. That's some scary crap in there.
