  1. Mic problems for Bono was a thing on this tour it seems.
  2. I think the main reason why this tour is not remembered fondly is speeches after speeches after speeches.
    Speech in Miracle Drug, Coexist speech in SBS, Speech for Sometimes You Can't Make It, declaration of Human Rights, Journey of equality ruining the intro to Streets, looooooong boring speech before One, etc.
    I'm looking at my rip of the Chicago audio, and I have 28 songs, 5 or 6 of them are "Bono banter". That can't be good.
    Bono's voice wasn't helping and the bluesy version of Bullet on this tour lost all its teeth and anger.
    Still, there are some cool things about this tour that deserve a first, second or third listen. The revival of some Boy songs, the one tour when Vertigo sounded fresh and cool, the nice rarities in the 3rd to 5th legs, that fantastic version of Kite that they played in the Australia shows, the fact that they visited cool places like Monterrey Mexico or Honolulu, HI.
  3. I loved Vertigo Tour, but i understand the reasons why people don't like it. At first, i liked this album more than All that you can't leave behind. For second, at this tour i had my first gig outside Holland. And third, but not least...it was in a period where a lot of things changed in my life and this tour, for me, was a celebration of that.
  4. The indoor show was a bit Elevation 2.0. The outdoor one was visually more interesting. I think the Vertigo shows were great shows to attend, but these days maybe it doesn't sound as fresh as it did back then. I don't think the speeches were a problem, maybe now they sound like a broken record, but back then it was still sort of new and (I think) appreciated.

Such a pity that they didn't release the full Milan show ,the 10 song DVD they did include with U218 was really good but it would be great to see the full show you can see the band really respond to the energy from the audience and are really up for it , but I wonder did they change their mind about releasing the complete concert when the idea of doing U23D came up or was it some technical glitches that were supposed to have happened the night they filmed it.

    I'm surprised Sometimes You Can't Make it has been MIA for 15 years. It was a big hit outside of the US, no?
  9. I seem to remember "Sometimes" being something of a hit in the US as well. Not to the extent of Vertigo, or even COBL, but it was out there. I dated a girl at the time who was not a fan of U2 by any means, and we heard it on the radio and she said she liked that song (meaning she had heard it while not in my presence).

    The Vertigo Tour... I love the setlist variation. I HATED the Bono preachiness, and the long speeches, which were at their worst at that time. I saw that tour 3 times, and all 3 were quite different. I didn't really get an Elevation 2.0 vibe, there was a different feeling somehow. One of the shows opened with LAPOE, which was kinda cool for something different. At the time it seemed impossible that U2 would ever again play Electric Co, An Cat Dubh, The Ocean, Gloria etc, so that was great to hear.

    They brought back ABOY and it was flat.

    For me, I LOVE the Vertigo Tour! May be because I'm probably a fair bit younger than most around here but it was the first concert of my entire life in 2006 in Melbourne (only 16 at the time). The tour (and especially that 5th leg) hold a special place in my heart as a U2 fan.

    I saw quite a bunch of Vertigo shows, including 5 of the 6 opening shows in California, which were awesome with An Cat Dubh/Into The Heart

    What I also remember is that Bono asked us to hold our cellphones up, which was totally new. Back then people used to put up their (cigarette-) lighters ("which burned with gas and real fire, kids" ). And the "One campaign" just started, so that was also quite exciting as it sounded pretty promising.
