The mentioned July Clips are there, btw.: http://u2start.com/topic/4280/

This is true, I guess - nice one Yeah, re. the July clips

I don't think they're more careful now. They blast out the new songs over the beach for example... As I said before, that guarantees that fans drool for more stuff and it's great promotion. Very subtle and effective - and cost-free.

Ah - you know what? I've never listened to Montgomery's Visit or Mercy.

I guess they weren't expecting fans to be sitting on the beach with a phone recorder though. Great free promotion.

If they don't expect that, they must have slept on trees the last 5 years.
The guy who recorded the latest clips even mentions that Bono watched him while he listened to the songs...

I'll bet. Remember, after last time, they're guarding these songs like their life depends on it.

I think, if they were really afraid about people recording their in-work songs, they wouldn't let fans hang out in front of the studio, the wouldn't play tracks to fans, they wouldn't play new songs at a volume easily audible by passing tourists...

What they worry about imo is that copies of the masters or other studio quality outtakes might leak. And they're right about that.

And with the world of bootlegging (not concerts, but studio stuff) you have to be very careful. Plenty of new releases have leaked three months before the final release, in the last year. Things can be taken and uploaded within minutes.
  7. Who would spoil the first release of a song by listening to a version recorded by a dutch guy in shorts vacationing in France? From his phone no less?

    Me! lol

They probably also played it to some journalist in Bono's car, to Jay-Z and a hairdresser, so why not in a beach-house? They did that in the past, too. It's a good way to keep fans interested and it's free promotion...

Whether the people were really there is another question...

Anyway...in teh clips you posted there are constantly two Dutch persons talking to each other, a woman and a man. They talk about Bono, she also says she already saw Bono twice when they were there. Ben probably is Dutch, and this source seems quite good to me.
  10. what is this Montgomery's Visit that has been mentioned?
