I love these slow periods we're in right now (excluding news of the re-issue release dates), I usually attribute this silence to the fact that the boys are holed up in the studio doing their work! Kind of nice not seeing Bono's face everywhere with everybody, looks like he's put this album at the very top of his to do list, anybody else get excited from the silence?

    Sorry to disappoint you - they're not in the studio at the moment.

    I was excited back a few weeeks ago when they were at Hanover Quay. I think if we get another clip (unlikely, but I suppose we can dream), the exictement will build.

    I wasn't aware of U2 fandom on the Internet right before Bomb came out, or when the beach clips came out, so i don't really have any other pre-release time period to compare it to, but I'm pretty damn impatient right now.
  9. Aha! U2 never really has been a jam band, with a few exceptions. It all makes sense. We already have the new sound, the fingerboard continuum. But what was boggling my mind was how they intended to use it. Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin. These guys who partly influenced U2 all jammed when playing live. Most notoriously was Led Zeppelin. Now as you may know, I love the Who. Jimi Hendrix was somewhat a good friend of theirs as well. In the 30 Years of Maximum R&B Pete Townshend states Hendrix tries to capture his live sound on record (in the studio). Now, perhaps let's look at Led Zeppelin. Probably one of the greatest rock bands ever, but is never called a jam band (like Phish or the Grateful Dead). Now imagine if they captured their live sound in studio (maybe they have, idk).

    Now, let's look at U2. Let's say they capture their live sound on record. Now fuse that sound with the the fingerboard continuum and U2's influences (The Who, Hendrix, etc.). My new prediction is U2 will have a lot jamming, a lot. We're looking at 2:00 min. plus solos. Not boring ones either, I can ensure that. Maybe an instrumental by U2 (has this ever been done)? We could see a concept piece in this too, but I really doubt that. All I know is this album is definitely innovative in every nook and cranny, and may or may not satisfy every U2 fan out there. Fans have been alienated by their work from Achtung and so on. U2's sound at the time was the classic rock sound, then came Achtung. People were not ready for an electro-soaked U2. This would last until ATYCLB. They went back to their roots, just as the Stones did with Beggar's Banquet, and were looked upon as a rock band again, challenged only by the Who and the Beatles (at the time).

    it appears they have been quite diligent with this album, seems Bono's been behaving himself and is following through with his "wanting to get back in the studio and serving these men"

    God I can feel that this album is going to be a masterpiece, transcendent, brilliant, I can't help but believe them especially when Daniel Lanois says they are breaking new musical ground, listening to Mercy I'm about to explode with excitement!
