1. To be honest, the main reason I'm looking forward to the new album is the subsequent tour and my chance to see them live for the first time. These bootlegs just fuel my impatience.

I have to say, I heartily agree, although it's not obviously the only reason - I'm just dying to hear some new U2 material and seeing a bit of justified media-hype. The only album I've had any interest in recently that's lived up to its pre-release billing has been Viva La Vida...

Erm...everyone has the capacity to sing in falsetto; in my opinion singing in key is more of a challenge. The thing is refining the falsetto and being comfortable singing it. I sing, but rarely (almost never) in genuine falsetto, as I don't sing from the back of my throat á la Pearl Jam etc., because it's genuinely uncomfortable. That I don't sing in such a style doesn't mean I don't have it lol. Hell, James Hetfield has the capability to sing in falsetto, but I can't say I've ever heard him sing in such a voice lol...

Chris appeared on the Who's VH1 program.....the Who being one of U2's big influences as an early band. Plus he also mentioned something about ASOH being one of his favorite songs. I wish I had the inside scoop lol, but I get a vibe that he likes U2 a lot.

True....when you said in key thats what i meant, it just wasn't said lol.

When did I say anything about Coldplay copying U2? Did you actually read my post? I didn't say anything about some of the things you mentioned, so whatever. It is all down to opinion, but I don't like coldplay that much. Maybe once in a while in a movie or something as background music, but I won't choose to listen to them or put them on MY ipod. They get on my nerves, but that doesn't have anything to do with them being influences by U2.

    ok....so we'll agree to disagree?

and don't say Chris Martin sucks....it offends me as a coldplay fan

  5. Coldplay are a decent band, but obviously not in the same league as U2 (and I don't think anyone would disagree).
Yes, their music can be formulaic, derivative and repetitive, but at least it can be listened to without getting tinnitus or a desire to go on an emo killing rampage. There aren't many modern bands that you can you say that of.
  6. Let's not all assume that every U2start member likes/loves Coldplay either. I for one detest them.

  7. I actually see that the opposite way. U2 fans not liking coldplay etc etc

    But I can be wrong

    AND

I can't wait for the new album!!!!!!!!

Easiest way to settle this would be a poll. Does U2start allow you to have polls in threads?
  9. Sorry for interrupting Coldplay debate No. 7391...

    From Hot Press:
Following on from Bono's comments that 2009 will be their year, it's confirmed: there will definitely be no new U2 album this year.

A band insider confirmed to Hot Press that February 2009 is now the likely launch date for the band's long-awaited follow-up to How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. That new target was set, Hot Press understands, at meetings that have taken place over the past 36 hours in Nice, where the band have been based for the latter part of the summer.

"There's still some details to be decided before the date is confirmed one hundred percent, but that's the plan," the source confirmed.

Bono has already spoken about how U2 intend to make 2009 their year.

“This is our chance for us to defy gravity once again,” he enthuses. “We have what it takes, we have the songs, new rhythms and a guitar player who is not ready to re-enter earth's atmosphere until he's taken a slice of the moon!

  10. Sounds pretty official. Oh well...I can wait that long.

I wouldn't trust any sources at this point.
