1. There used to be a line about U2 releasing a cover of that song as a single in 2009 for a few weeks. Edited by now.
  2. I've been a bit off the Forum for a while, but I joined this topic and read the 2009-news. Well, it sounds a bit like 1997 to me... They were supposed to release POP on Autumn 1996, then said Winter, and then March 1997. This sounds the same to me... I hope the result will be NOT another not-rehearsed tour
  3. ‘When we set out on this record it was Larry who came up with the plan not to have a plan. He put up this idea that wouldn’t it be great just to make music for its own sake, not for the purpose of a live show or on album but just to see what we’re capable of…’

More like Zooropa in my opinion - Larry was never a big fan of Passengers, so I can't see him wanting to repeat such an experiment.

The very notion that a band heads into a studio without the specific aim of making an album is ludicrous. What Bono is probably trying to say is that they are at a stage now where they have little else to prove. They're very comfortable with what they've achieved, they have a gi-normous fan-base and they have the freedom to push the boundaries and not be confined to expectation or formula. So Harry your Zooropa comparision might close to the mark - at least the sort of mindset behind the final product, not the actual music if you know what I mean.

But it's also very possible that we're all reading a bit too much into what Bono is quoted as saying.

About time they make music for the sake of making music, not just for a tour. U2 getting back to their roots? I reckon so.

The last two records were meant to be 11 reasons for leaving their families and going around the world; hopefully this record is 10-12 reasons for making music for making the sake of music. And giving a great world tour afterwards.

Judging by the last two records (ATYCLB, HTDAAB), the schedule's gonna look something like this:

Start of November: first single, title, tracklist and video confirmed
Mid-November: first airplay of single / video to the world
End-November: announcing tour dates, adding more as time permits
Start / Mid-Jan / Feb: launch of new album, promo tour, launch of first single
    Sometime 2009: Tour starts

I'm even gonna guess January 1st - January 9th for the launch.

  7. it's fun to read those many theories though
I just talked to my mum about what everyone's discussing here concerning the new album (and new apple ipods and whether or not u2 is involved again) and she thinks it's hilarious how we come up with new stuff every day, never stopping to guess

Why would U2 even want to associate themselves with Apple's latest "creations", I don't know.

I'll be interested to see what promotions they do this time around.
