  1. It would be better if they told us the album was coming out in late 2009 from the beginning, and then brought forward the release date to February, it sure beats having delays.

    U2's The Edge has told NME.COM that his band are still writing songs for their next album.

    The band recently decided to push back the release date of the follow-up to 2004's 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb', declaring they wanted "2009 to be our year".

    However, while many were anticipating that the record would come out this year, U2's guitarist explained the band were still hard at work on the album.

    "We're still writing and we're trying to take it to the next level," said The Edge. "Its taking a while, but I'm told there's no short cut to greatness!"

    The U2 man - who spoke to NME.COM after presenting Peter Gabriel with Amnesty International's 2008 Ambassador of Conscience award in London today (September 10) recognising the legend's work in the area of human rights - also added the he was really pleased that Elbow won the 2008 Nationwide Mercury Prize for 'The Seldom Seen Kid'.

    "They're a really good band, good for them," he declared, before joking: "More power to your Elbow!"

    Yeah, but they hadn't banked on or anticipated writing 60 odd songs and counting, nor that they'd go back on themselves prior to what they believed to be their original release date. No one can predict the future...

  8. Hey, i was wondering, you think any chance of a double album? It sounds like their going to have over 60 songs since their still writing, so maybe they release the album and a b-sides at the same time? I would thing that awesome

    I always treat the concept of double albums with some degree of trepidation. They're never quality all the way through IMO. I prefer the idea of a quick follow-up LP while on tour ala Zooropa!
  10. I read somewhere that some people think it's due to internal strife between bandmembers / Lanois / Eno / McGuinness. Anyone have any ACTUAL info on whether or not this could be true?

    That would be great. Not sure if it's feasible, but from a fan's perspective, would be awesome. Especially if they pull another mega tour a la ZooTV

    I guess it's yet another untested rumour. With Eno's stubborness, that could well be true. Let's not forget the "Streets" incident during JT recording.
