    Something tells me this is a double album. Its very much unlike u2 to do this. Only few double albums have succeeded. The only i can think of are exile, the white album, quadrophenia, and goodbye yellow brick road. Mind you all those came within a 5 year period (1968-1973). Double albums get a bad name now because the Red Hot Chili Peppers are highly critisized for doing it. Not sure how good it is, but it could be. My point is, if U2 are making a double album, it could be the greatest double album ever. Why? First, we live in the digital age, so buying the album is easy. Coldplay's Viva album was the biggest digital download ever. Something tells me U2 might take that over when the new album comes out. Second, U2 always make great albums. Always. When was the last time U2 made an alright record? Never. U2 have always made great albums. Only October was not so good, because the lyrics were stolen. Its still a great record though. Third, U2 have a hit song on every album. Every album. For the doubters October has Gloria, Zooropa has Stay, and Pop has Discotheque. Forth, U2 have standards, so it's safe to say the album won't suck. All in all, I think U2 are gonna shock the world. This album is gonne be big. Maybe one of their best.

    Good to see that some people didn't lose their faith in the band. And no, I'm not sarcastic or anything.

    My opinion is completely different, though. I highly doubt a double album. I think that idea comes from the 50-60 songs quote but that indicates nothing to me. Nobody knows if Bono talks about lyrics, music, fragments, ideas...
    The last "alright" records were the last 2 and based on what I've heard so far, I expect another one for 2009.
    But then again Bono promised the best U2 album ever, so who am I to doubt him?

    Oh, is that songwriting vein they hit the same as 2006 or did they find a new one?

    agreed I'm not so keen on double albums myself, but I feel like if they were to do one, this might be it
  5. Wow, nice words... Last two albums allright? Never. I like every song of ATYCLB, and of HTDAAB I only ''dislike'' One Step Closer.

    Very good arguement, but the thing was the 50-60 songs thing wasn't even in my mind at the time. Of course the 50-60 songs thing says little, but its something. Who knows though, the chances of half of those songs being good songs is likely. A small percentage, but it could happen. But when Lanios says he's mixing half the album, he could be mixing either 5 to 10 tracks. We have no idea. All I know is, that if the album is due out in 2009, something good must be going on.

    HTDAAB is a great album. Sure, 1-2 tracks are alright, but that doesn;t mean the album is alright. Remember now, quite a few singles came from it. About 5 songs were singles, and all of them made the charts one way or another. Eight Grammys kinda makes it hard to call it an alright record.
    Now for ATYCLB. Its a very good album. Another album with 3 alright tracks, but as I said before, that doesn't define the album. 4 singles and all of them did well. 7 grammys. Do I need to say more? Plus if other people actually listen to Kite and hear the words they might like the song instead of clinging to their radios for their next song of the moment. 2009 will belong to U2.

    Just remember if U2 comes up with more than 80 mins worth of material it has to be a double album. The average song is 4 minutes. That's 20 songs. Something tells me they've come up with 21.

    A perfect example of a fan who loves these two albums. They are indeed great albums!
  8. Indeed. Every U2 fan has his expectations but for the 'outsider', the general music lover, the new album will be great whatsoever and it will be awarded again. It depends of your style preference.

    Some U2 fans like all the songs, but they really love Joshua Tree, Rattle And Hum and Unforgettable Fire. So if the boys make another JT'ish album (which will not happen) they will say it's one of the best U2-albums. And the same counts for the Pop, Zooropa and AB style. If they make another album in that style (which will not happen)... fill in the gaps.

    Oh did I just say ''which will not happen'' twice? Yeah. U2 will never repeat themselves. Same counts for the upcoming tour. It will be totally new.

    I will be absolutely stunned if they make a double-album. I'm wondering how they will set up a great setlist for the shows.... By example you can't skip The Fly

    If you take awards and the number of single releases as an indicator for the quality of an album, you're certainly right, no doubt about that.
    I just use my personal taste as indicator, that's where the "alright" rating comes from. The last 2 albums have 2 great songs each, some so-so, some crap.

    IF they come up with 80 minutes a double album is likely. But I doubt they will.
