I know, though since someone threw in 'beatles' again, I was wondering
ah well, only two more months, I hope...

  2. Hurry up, 2008! Be over and done with! Let's move onto '09!

This also means we've now heard from Lanois, Lillywhite, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Edge's mom, and Harry Crosbie about the new album. Quite a list.

Many consider the Beatles to be at their best with the Sgt Pepper Material. This era spanned from 1966 to 1967, with a lot of their best songs being written at the time. You have Strawberry Fields (use of the mellotron being innovative), Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (also very innovative at the time), and A Day in the Life (the two different songs in one was new at the time). Innovation wise, this would be great.

Is he refering to the sound when the Beatles were best? If so, that could explain why the drumming matches that of Mitch Mitchell's. An album with roots to the 60s? I've seen that, but not by U2. Panic at the Disco did the sort of thing with their latest release (Pretty. Odd.) and it sounds very Beatles-esque in style, while they continued to do what they do best. The thing is, with U2, they experiment with new instruments all the time, which I love to see them do.

So my guess is, they've heard a lot of music from the late 60s lately, and wanted to throw it into the future. By future I mean reinvent rock and roll again. And U2 have done this before, and I can't wait until they do it again.
  4. I didn't really like the beach clip of get your boots on, was like 50 year olds trying to sound like 20 year olds, it's incongrous when they aren't acting their age.

With regards to Will.I.Am producing on the album, perhaps it will be like Coldplays Lost+ with Jay-Z which wasn't bad ( I think Coldplay helped write his lyrics). At least Brian Eno has some experience with rap/hip hop anyway, perhaps its the connection.

From what we've heard so far I don't really feel that the album will be as 'fantastically innovative' as everyone is saying, the 'best U2 album ever' talk is worriesome, because it creates expectations that are going to be hard to live up to, U2 are not in their prime. I would prefer if they didn't talk up the album to this degree, and be pleasantly surprised by how good it is when it came out, rather than expecting to hear another AB and being dissappointed.

And don't forget Eno told the fans at Hanover Quay Moment of Surrender was the best thing he's recorded with U2.

  6. Jesus Christ
Alright, I'm gonna call it: Tomorrow President Elect Obama is going to claim this album is the great change U2 needs

    Yes we can
  8. So...more WITS then...
Not sure if I'm happy with it or not...WITS is a nice song, but for a complete album?

But I'm glad this probably means that the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band-snippet in BD will stay!

Amazing. This is how news get made. It starts with a statement that compares the quality of the creative process on the latest album to the Beatles and ends with "an album sounding like WITS".

    lol
    I thought Beatles+U2=WITS
    Pretty logical IMO...

EDIT: Oh I see now...he didn't say it was Beatles-like, it just reminded him of it

As a student of journalism I can just agree with you.

Funny you mention that, altough im not sure I would go that far as of yet
But out of all 4 clips I heard, the one that is suppose to be the "boots on" one
It was my least fave of them, I think a possible line from it was " get your boots strapped on"
