    ALBUM, TOUR NEWS FROM DUBLIN
    June 08, 2008
    posted by: m2

We're getting several emails tonight from U2.com regulars telling us about various threads in the Zootopia forums. Seems there's a lot of activity lately outside Hanover Quay, and fans are asking questions and getting information like this:

    * The band has one week of work left on the album.
    * Brian Eno told fans about a new song called 'Moment of Surrender' and said it's "the best thing" he's recorded with U2.
    * Sam O'Sullivan told fans the band is on a tight schedule because the album has to be ready for October.
    * Tour will start in March and will visit North America and Europe. (no idea on source)

So there you have it. Thx to our Zootopia friends (C, A, etc.) for sharing the news so we can share with our readers.

you mean all this wonderful news?
  2. One thing is certain, we will have a new album before Christmas..
  3. I put the Edge clip on my iPod!

  4. That's a cool clip, thanks for posting. I really like the third riff--sounds a bit like The Fly.
Also is that Bono's black platform shoe just barely visible sticking out from behind that water bottle at the beginning? If it is, wonder why he's hiding.
  5. Paul McGuinness has been talking to BBC's 6 Music about the new record - and when it might arrive.

The exact release date, he said, was "not clear yet but I would think towards the end of October".

"We will obviously work with whatever technology is available to make the release of the new record as interesting as possible," he added

That second part sounds interesting. . .

    It does.

I wonder what they mean by technology to make it more interesting - maybe the new deal with Live Nation and the comments about being closer to the fans actually means something, and not just some quick sentence strung together to make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside and think, "...isn't that great to know the manager is thinking of the fans equally when he says that".

From that small quote, I'm thinking digital delivery on a huge scale. Anyone else?

Maybe Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead have taught U2 something about digital delivery. Pearl Jam run the TenClub for the live recordings and album sales, Nine Inch Nails have started selling (well, not really selling, more like torrenting) some of their recent records - the Ghosts, EPs and LPs through sites like ThePirateBay and Radiohead did that In Rainbows album for free on their website. I highly doubt U2 will put their new album online for free, but it could be exclusive recordings or their first song to download (which would be more than awesome). Lots of countries got to download Springsteen's Radio Nowhere from the new album a few days before the actual release, so maybe something like that.

Like distributing it through U2.com, eMusic, Amazon and iTunes. Streaming on Facebook, last.fm, MySpace, iLike, YouTube.....

Does that mean U2's finished with FanFire and won't be distributing through them after this?

  9. Read an article on the swedish fansite that Brian Eno have revealed a name of one of the songs on the new album. Moment of Surrender is the name of the song. Could have linked the whole article...but it's in swedish ^^'

I think its been already mentioned though, whats got me is how the last one is mercy. Perhaps it's been reworked? Maybe the lyrics have been changed (I hope so Bono).

I've read romours on the swedish fansite that Mercy will be on the next album but haven't heard any define about it.
  12. I believe they change Mercy. Just like Always = Beautiful Day and Native Son = Vertigo. That would mean that Mercy is the leading song!
