1. I also see no legitimate reason to ever play Explorers during a concert
  2. Absolute +1 to your last 2 posts, Brian.

Tour starts TOMORROW, guys. /excited. I guess I should sign up at some Muse dedicated forum

  3. Yeah. The fact is that I wouldn't mind them playing it IF their shows were 25, 28, 32 songs long. In that kind of longer shows, I can gladly accept one or even more setlist slots consumed by poor ballads if playing them makes them happier. BUT with a 18-20 songs setlist, don't mess with me and use your setlist slots better!!!!!
  4. I'd like to return the +1 to your post Sergio. One of my issues with Muse on general is I wish they would play longer setlists. They have plenty of songs and a can base that would totally want/be able to handle a 22-24 song set. Make it happen boys

  5. Yep, Explorers are the same example as Guiding Light on last tour... and the same as In A Little While by youknowwho...

In A Little While is great and certainly deserves to be in a setlist. Maybe not as a staple now, but certainly in rotation.

Listened to Explorers after finally getting around to the 2nd Law and I have to say that Explorers and In A Little While can't be more dissimilar.

Okay... it was just my opinion. I'm sure someone would agree with me and probably someone can't wait to hear Explorers live... so... just my opinion

No I agree with you that Explorers should never be played live.

I disagree with your assessment that In A Little While is in the same position as Explorers.
  9. I guess they must be playing a dress rehearsal right now, if I get hold of the setlist or any details I will let you all know.
  10. Now that I've finally gotten around to listening to the album, here's a brief review...

Supremacy: Freaking amazing. It's got the dichotomy of class and chaos that Muse tends to be known for. Great way to open the album. Also, this IS the official Bond theme for Skyfall (sorry Adele, no comparison). 10/10

Madness: Great song. Definitely my favorite Muse song of this type. Again, excellent example of the dichotomy between chaos (madness) and grace. The song builds very nicely throughout. 10/10

Panic Station: Kind of an interesting tune. It does have that Muse feel to it, but also feels a bit eccentric. I don't really have much to say about it specifically because it actually took me quite by surprise. 8/10

Prelude/Survival: I'm rating these as one song because that's the way it's supposed to be. The song is absolutely loaded with cheese regarding the lyrics. It served it's purpose as the Olympic anthem, though. But for everyday listening, I probably won't be listening to this one every day. 7/10

Follow Me: This song is the first instance of those "dubstep/electro" elements they said they would experiment with. I believe that element works very well here. The first "drop" we'll call it works very well and serves as the climax of the song. I like how they didn't go overboard with it either. Great discretion. Lyrically, it's a very motivating song. I enjoy it. 9/10

Animals: This song was a little weird for me. I will admit that I got bored of it on my first listen... 5/10

Explorers: Still haven't been able to make it through this one. 3/10

Big Freeze: Nice uplifting song. Feels a little like Starlight in that sense. 8/10

Save Me: I'm not sure how I feel about this song either. After the first listen through, I didn't feel like I would be listening to it much after... 5/10

Liquid State: Another song I didn't really care much for... It's alright I guess. 6/10

The 2nd Law: Unsustainable: I know when I initially heard the preview to this song, I said it was a great use of the dubstep element. After hearing Follow Me, I have to say that I was incorrect. I think they may have carried it over too much with this one. 6/10

The 2nd Law: Isolated System: I feel like this song is one that will grow on me. It feels very much like the first section of Fez-Being Born. I think it's a great background track and and, surprisingly, a good way to end the album. 7/10

Overall: The highs were high and the lows were low. Supremacy, Madness, Panic Station, Follow Me, and Big Freeze are all great songs. Explorers is, unfortunately, a huge downside for me. Plus, there were several other songs that weren't necessarily downright terrible, but simply not memorable at all for me. I'd say the album as a whole gets an 7.5/10.

For those of you playing along at home, the average score from all the songs would be a 7. I'm giving the album an extra half point because I now have a dubstep-esque song in my playlist via Follow Me.

Now if you don't mind, I'm going to listen to Supremacy so I can feel like James Bond while walking to class.
  11. haha Alex, you're a hero I tend to agree with everything you said except the Animals review, it's SUPERB in my humble opinion, and one of the album's highlights.
