Three classic songs - not my favourite songs but classics nonetheless.

I gotta admit I'm one if them who jumped ship. I'm all for evolution.. I don't long for snother OOS or absolution but this new album never got me. Only song that has had a lasting impression is Animals and it seems to have dropped out of their setlists. I skipped them this tour but ill def check out their next album. And BTW I was a big muse fan. Seen the 4 times but they lost me with the 2nd law.

I pretty much echo these sentiments. The 2nd Law is definitely not my cup of tea. Had that been a band's debut album, I wouldn't be at all interested in them. To be fair, there are some highlights for me on the album, but they are few and far between.

The 2nd is not a bad album, it just lacks cohesion and a bit more of regularity. Supremacy and Animals are among their best songs in the last years, probably among their best ever. Survival and Follow Me are excellent, Madness is very good. The rest of the songs are "meh" for Muse standards (although other successful bands would kill to have something as Panic Station or Big Freeze). It's just that the album is mediocre as a whole.

By the way, I got my flights Madrid-Bologne to see them in Rome on July 6th, and I will probably see Arctic Monkeys on July 10th before coming back - great news

Exactly dude... Few and far between. Every song has a part that just doesn't sit well with me except Animals. And honestly, we wait years for a record and then 2 songs have the bass player singing. That bothered me allot. I love bellamys vocals and it was disappointing to not hear him on 5 tracks. And don't get me started on Explorers and how its almost played ever night....

Is it just me or can I draw some career parallels between Muse and Radiohead? I have a feeling this has probably been stated before, if not here then somewhere else.

Both bands had decent first albums but they never really took off - comparing them might be a stretch at this point as Showbiz didn't really have a "Creep."

Album number 2 is where the two bands really started to take off where Muse had radio hits like PIB and NB (among others) and Radiohead had Fake Pastic Trees and Just (among others).

Each band's seminal album was their third as both Absolution and OK Computer boast classic track after classic track. Both bands also played epic shows at Glastonbury during their respective tours promoting their album.

It seems both bands got rather experimental with their fourth albums but both BH&R and Kid A were very well received and have many great tunes that both bands still play today.

The comparison gets a little thin afterwards, however it seems that many longtime fans were somewhat disappointed with the most recent efforts (2nd Law and King of Limbs) from both bands.

I also think that Radiohead and Muse (specially in the Showbiz album) sound pretty similar. Similar falsettos, similar distorted guitars. I once played a Radiohead song (I think it was Just) to a Muse fan who didn't know anything from RH besides Creep and High n' Dry, and he swore it was Muse playing the song.
And there are times when a not very known Muse song (maybe Pink Ego Box, Twin, Agitated, etc) has popped up in the iPod while shuffle playing and I've thought "Oh, no, I'm not really in a Radiohead-ish mood, let's skip this". True story.

Muse sounded very similar to Radiohead during Showbiz, to the point where they were critically panned for it – hence why they changed up their sound for Origin of Symmetry which was fresh, vibrant, original, and awesome.

Years ago (over a decade - in 2002) I downloaded what was called archived as a Radiohead b-side (it wasn't given a name) off the filing sharing server Kazaa (anyone remember that one?). Anyway, I was never able to find out where the song was from...until now!!!!

It was Muse's "Con-Science," a "Muscle Museum" b-side.

I absolutely LOVE Con-Science. It's a very simple song but it's one of my personal favorites. Amazing story regarding Radiohead too

Of all the albums I've listened to, I have to say that The 2nd Law has the least amount of cohesion in its tracklist. I honestly haven't listened to an album this jumbled since Pop.

I'd say that I'm at least a moderate fan of all the songs except for Explorers, Save Me, and Liquid State. One thing I do notice about this album is that there are songs that I can simply listen to regardless of the mood I'm in. I've mentioned before that I'm not always in the mood to listen to certain Muse songs, but Supremacy, Survival, Follow Me, and Madness have been regulars on my playlists. I'd say it's probably one of their better works, but mainly because each album has just a few songs I love and the rest I simply delete from iTunes.

Follow Me and Madness are really "mood-less" songs indeed. Not so sure about Supremacy though
