Nope, the big WAV (lossless) file got unfixably (?) corrupted after I converted it to MP3 and imported it to a bad copy of Audacity, way long before uploading it. I tried to fix the WAV header, I even passed it to a couple of computer ingeneers that tried working on it - no success. So MP3 is the only thing I have from that show. I feel ashamed and I changed my post-taping habits after that, now I do a double copy of the original file before starting to work on it. Too bad this didn't happen with a previous concert, that way I would have saved the Muse one. Oh well.
Ah shit, sorry to hear that. Not sure if your tape is the only one from the show, but if it is, it's always better to have mp3s of the show than nothing! I'm still hoping that the rest of the Australian 360 shows get released to the masses at some point. I know for a fact that they were all taped, but seeing as I wasn't a taper, they are still in the vaults! I'd take mp3s...
Besides bands with a strong taper-base like U2 or The Boss, taping other bands ain't that common in Spain. I am pretty confident that I was, sadly, the only taper in the venue that night. And yes, MP3 is far better than nothing, of course.
What do you mean with 360 shows? Muse didn't support U2 in Australia, it was Jaz-Z... Wasn't it? If you mean the December 2010 shows, I hope that they were recorded and they are shared someday!!
It's a shame. You know something? The thing that ignited me into taping and sharing the live concerts I attended was, precisely, the first Muse concert I attended, the Madrid show on June 16th, 2010. It was an AWESOME show (the best of the 3 Muse concerts I've seen so far - and probably the best I will ever see unless they do an Absolution tribute show) but there is no bootleg from the show. I was amazed at the fact that nobody among 50.000 fans carried a recorder of some kind. All we got in full is some crappy videos from the seats, and that's all. Then I decided to move my own ass, get some recorders, get some microphones, and sacrify some of my personal enjoyment for the sake of having a memory of all the shows I attend. And I am very proud of it.
Yeah I am the same. It's just that I really cannot afford to get gear most of the time. And I think if I was going to tape, I'd go for a scanner to do IEMs. You can get Icom ic R5/7s at pretty good prices. Which means I can tape and still shout and sing out at the show without the mics picking it up.
On another note, I hope Muse play Map of the Problematique at my show. That's a favourite of mine so far. And Animals too.
I would get an IEM if I liked the IEM recordings at all. I don't, so audience is my chosen way. Moreover, a good IEM recording is harder to get than a good audience one. You have to know the frequencies in which each band broadcast their iems (assuming you have the right range on your IEM receiver) , you have to get a good spot with no interferences and a good, steady signal... Not easy at all.
And after 2 years of taping every show I attend, I've finally found the good balance between taping quality and show enjoyment. I give up a little of recording steadiness but on the other hand I enjoy myself, sing, jump and dance. Would my recordings be better if I stayed static and shut throughout the show? Surely. Am I willing to do so? Nope
That being said, I might start stop recording some shows, or at least stop taking it so seriously. I want to fully enjoy some acts and taping them restricts a lot of my joy!!
Yeah I know. That's what sucks. Hard to find the balance between taping and making the most out of the show. I've done quite a bit of reading on taperssection etc so I know what I'd be getting into. I like Bruce IEMs a lot cause they don't seem to have the click track (?) unlike U2... To me they are essentially just like soundboards. And a second hand receiver, from my searching, can actually be cheaper than a good set of externals. So I think it's worth the risk. Especially if I get a multitrack and have externals and IEM...
I didn't know you were into TapersSection! You can obviously guess who am I there too
Yes, a Tascam DR-2D (4 channels and perfectly stealthable) with a pair of externals+bb and a decent IEM receiver should get you on a great taping track, and for less than $500 (even less than 300 if you get great deals!!). I'm not fond on IEMs regardless the artist, although you're right that Bruce ones are far more listenable than U2's, Muse's, etc.
Just to go slightly ontopic again... MLK (the guy who taped U2010-10-08 - Rome) has uploaded his recording of the Rome concert. Ex Aud, as expected, so miles better than mine
I can guess who you are just about everywhere haha.
Yeah that's what I would do, I think. Gives me a whole range of options, and if I could get it right for a gig, the matrix could be great!
And a scanner and externals into something like the DR-2D gives me double the chance to nail a good recording! So if I screwed up the volume or I just had screamers around me recording with externals, I might still have a chance to get something worthwhile with the scanner taping the IEM feed.
I love his stuff, will definitely have to download his version (sorry mate but his stuff is up there with the best audience recordings I've ever heard. Alysha too.).
Sure, no offense at all!! I've finished downloading the recording. It's basically superb, as usual. It's GREAT to have such a good memory from the show, even if it's now my own recording. I might matrix them for my own usage, just for the sake of having a mix of what I heard at the show and what I should have heard (as I commented here, the sound wasn't really good at our end of the stadium).
