BTW, Jesus stepped on a lot of toes when he spoke about God's kingdom, too. He refused to calm down his radical message to become easier accessible. I believe it's our job as Christians to do what Jesus did and to follow in his footsteps, no matter whether we're getting bashed for it or not.

It's a good thing that Bono is trying to help Africa (even if I tdisagree with the way he's trying to help). If that activism has an effect on his songwriting, music style, delay on new releases - fine. I don't blame him for that. Alex pointed out that the band ows me nothing.
But, a different thing is his preaching during concerts. Like I mentioned before, when I buy a ticket for a show, I pay to see a band playing music... entertainement. I don't pay to hear a hypocrite telling me what I have to do.
If you wanna raise awareness during the concerts, do it through song lyrics. Use pictures of starving children on the screens, bring up activists on stage before the show instead of an opening act, buy medicaments from the billions you make on one tour and donate them - whatever.
Or just play more songs, to equal the length of the monologues. Then I'm fine with the speaches. I'm gonna use the time to grab some beers.

I wouldn't go so far as to call Bono a hypocrite, sure I hear the accusation all the time but I think he does good with his voice, using his celebrity bullshit for something good. He has said over and over that if he gave money publicly it would change what he's doing, think the quote is from Music Express a couple years ago, I'm sure Bono does much more behind the scenes then he lets on.
