  1. There are tons of programs that work well.

    For rar files, the best there is WinRAR (not free). But 7-Zip is also a good alternative (freeware). But basicly any program will do. Just make sure you don't download something with spyware or crap toolbars. If you stick with one of the suggestions above you should be ok
