1. Originally posted by LikeASong:By the way, Coldplay performed in Barcelona last September 4th and the concert was crap. I didn't attend it myself (thankfully), but many of my friends and collegues did. The sound was bad throughout the entire show, and it went off some times. The setlist was standard, no surprises, no lows, no downs... The length of the show was standard/low (1:55 of the show itself, plus the pauses because of the tech problems). The crowd was really angry at the end. There has been even an "official" website (up to 5'000 signs right now) set up to request another concert in Spain (it was the one and only show here since last November), or the tickets to be refunded.

It shows the difference. U2 kicks off their world tour in Barcelona with two outstanding shows, and just 2 months later, their rival band fuck up their only date. Lame.

Nevertheless I still like Coldplay a lot; I will surely attend their next show(s) in Spain. My girlfriend loves them

Somehow agree with you. Like them a lot, but after watching their performance in Nijmegen...I can say U2 was a lot better. Coldplay wasn't bad though, lame audience and a good gig but nothing special at all.

  3. The review is valid anyway. You might not accept the comparison, but the review is there.

  4. I doubt that the review is "valid" since - from what I heard, the technical difficulties stopped after 2 songs. Furthermore, you'll have sound problems in some areas of a stadium in every stadium with every band. That "standard set with no lows or highs" is highly subjective anyway, I guess you'll find a review like this for more bands. The petition is ridiculous, so that's not even an argument.

What I meant was that you can't compare
    1) a gig you've been to to a gig a friend told you about
    2) A random gig at a random stadium of a still rather new band that is 2 years into a tour to the Opnening concert of a highly established band that comes back from a 4 year hiatus.

And last but not least that U2 vs Coldplay isn't even funny anymore. It's just boring.
  5. I understand Yeah, my comparison actually let us see they can't be compared lol
  6. I never thought it was funny, it was even annoying for me. I just let my thoughts run, because both concerts in Barcelona (Coldplay's and U2's) were announced around the same dates, and the expectation and debate over here grew quickly. There were tons of "Coldplay will suck", "Coldplay rock", "U2 are dinosaurs, fuck them", "U2 rule" discussion over here; I just was impressed that debate wasn't active anymore since U2 shows were near excellent to the general audience, and Coldplay show was a complete fail for most of the stadium. Boo-ing a band, wheter they come from a 18-months-tour or not, is disagreeing with them. Isn't it?

If there had been a Madonna/Bruce/Killers/etc.etc.etc concert in Barcelona around July, I would have compared it with CP. Since the concert was U2's, I compared them. I love CP and I will go to their next show(s) over here, but I just told you what happened last sept. 4th. No personal appreciations really, just informing. Believe me, if the show had been excellent, I would have posted an excellent review. It just not happened.

  7. I thought you haven't been there?

Oh, come on, this is getting ridiculous, isn't it? U2 near excellent in Barcelona? I find that to be a biased opinion. They put on great shows, yes. So do Coldplay. I've seen both live this summer and as I said already, I liked both. The stage, lighting, production, ... can't really be compared, U2 is on another scale here. But the band performance itself, well, here we are closer. I won't forget hearing Ultra Violet for the first (and second) time live and hearing streets done (almost) properly after years was also a nice experience. On the other hand, I find Bono more and more like he's performing the same act again and again even during his speeches. Like nothing (or little) is spontaneous, even talking to the crowd. And this is the part where I liked Chris Martin more than Bono. Plus, as I said before, Coldplay actually used those parts of the stage where they come closer to the crowd (B-stage, C-stage). I mean, they used that a lot. Both times I saw U2, I found they used the large circle far too little. Maybe it's just too large, as it takes them a while to do the whole "lap".
But otherwise, no, the bands can't be directly compared. The music is different, the setting is different, Coldplay use piano a lot, they switch some instruments ... Also, the crowds are different and maybe that's part of the reason why we see so many conflicting reviews about Coldplay's shows. Their crowd is just generally younger than U2's. They get excited easily, but they also get bored/annoyed easily. What, you say? Yes, also U2 miss a note from time to time. Heck, they must even restart a song from time to time (remember, it happened in Barcelona, and with a song I felt they knew by heart). And yes, they also run into problems with sound (in Glasgow the entire sound system died briefly during Walk On), screen (in Zagreb II it didn't extend at all), but in the end nobody angrily started a petition to repeat the show or give money back.
  9. Coldplay are pleased to announce a tour of Latin America for February/March 2010. The seven stadium shows will mark the end of the band's Viva La Vida world tour, which has so far seen them play 159 shows to 2.75 million fans across 25 countries.

    FEBBRUARY
26 - River Plate Stadium, Buenos Aires, Argentina
28 - Apoteose Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

    MARCH

4 - Parque Simon Bolivar, Bogota, Colombia
6 - Foro Sol, Mexico City, Mexico
