That is: Teardrop, God Put A Smile and Fix You in audio and video form + an iTunes LP.

I downloaded it yesterday, must say, it hasn't swayed me regarding my opinion of them live.

I think we talked about this earlier, but I don't think Chris can maintain quality vocals for a long set given the fact that he tends to run around a lot during performances. That level of energy is really good for getting the crowd going, but it doesn't help his vocals at all. Perhaps this is the reason they don't do a 24 song set. It's as you said. They have the material, the energy, and the reputation to start doing longer gigs. I really hope they don't have the mentality that they have to "save" the longer sets for the stadium tour.

They have already played 23, 24 or 25 songs sets. Look at the more or less staple arena and stadium setlists of the VLV tour:

    Arena (22 songs):

    Life In Technicolor
    Violet Hill
    Clocks
    In My Place
    Speed Of Sound
    Cemeteries of London
    Chinese Sleep Chant
    42
    Fix You
    Strawberry Swing
    Talk
God Put A Smile Upon Your Face
    The Hardest Part
    Postcards From Far Away
    Viva La Vida
    Lost!
    The Scientist
    Death Will Never Conquer
    ---
    Politik
    Lovers In Japan
    Death And All His Friends
    ---
    Yellow

Stadium (24-25 songs depending on the night):

    Life In Technicolor
    Violet Hill
    Clocks
    In My Place
    Yellow
    Glass of Water
    Cemeteries of London
    42
    Fix You
    Strawberry Swing
God Put A Smile Upon Your Face
    Talk
    The Hardest Part
    Postcards From Far Away
    Viva La Vida
    Lost!
    Green Eyes
    Death Will Never Conquer
    Billie Jean
    Viva La Vida
    ---
    Politik
    Lovers In Japan
    Death And All His Friends
    ---
    The Scientist
    Life In Technicolor ii

Ok, I might agree that Postcards From Far Away hardly counts as a full song and Billie Jean and Chinese Sleep Chant shouldn't have been staples, but... That shows they can perform 22-25 songs easily night after night. And the VLV concert schedule was as hard as MX's one, if not more. I still don't get the point of performing 18 or 19 songs. And the Oracle ignores me when I ask it

  7. 'Chris Martin gets dragged into the circle'

  8. 'Sorry guys, my planet needs me.'
  9. Nice pics!

  10. The thing that impressed me most about the viva la vida tour was that they played so many of their new songs early on.. Very gutsy if u ask me!! And I'm fairly sure they played every song from the album on the tour

Their concert itinerary isn't really THAT tight. When their tour schedule starts looking a bit like 360, then we can talk about about concert schedules.

Also, the thing about some of the sets you mentioned is that Chris's voice gets fairly shot towards the end of the show. Some of the best videos of Lovers In Japan display faltering vocals at times. I really think it boils down to the fact that Chris likes to run around A LOT during performances. Most importantly, he likes to sing while running around. While it makes for an entertaining show, his vocals suffer towards the end of the set. The running around is great, but I feel that Chris needs to exercise a bit of discretion in that department.
  12. Of the two Coldplay scenarios below, I'll take the one in bold.

Coldplay plays a 95 minute set, Chris runs around like a maniac and gives you an absolutely thrilling show as usual.
    vs.
Coldplay plays a 120 minute set, Chris doesn't really throw himself into it like usual and you're left going, "last time I saw them was better".

Coldplay just isn't one of those bands for me that has a SHOW show like U2. There isn't a lot of theater to it- it's conceptual, but at the end its just a lot of really great music. Arrangements are always neat and the effects during the songs are nice, but a U2 show threads itself together based on themes of music, emotions, and personas of the band. It's not that Coldplay's MUSIC doesn't do that...it's that that's not the band that they are. They aren't those people. That thread of their music into a setlist format is possible, but it's not the way they carry on a show in a way that works for them. They're slightly more on the "artsy-fartsy" side (and that's a good thing for them), and Chris runs around like a maniac nowadays. Just what they do.

If I need a long show with plenty of "wow" moments, I see U2.
If I need a long show with the absolute standard of rock and nothing more, I see Foo Fighters or Pearl Jam.
