Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has signed a new five-year contract which will keep him at the club until 2013.

The England international had run into the final year of his deal and was a target for Inter Milan, who are managed by ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

But Lampard, who held out for a long-term deal, has finally agreed a new deal which he says will keep him at the club for the rest of his career.

Lampard, 30, moved to Stamford Bridge from West Ham for £11m in June 2001.

"I'm personally very happy and I hope I've made the Chelsea fans happy," Lampard told Chelsea TV after signing his new deal on Wednesday.

"I've had seven great seasons here and now I can have many more.

"It's been a difficult summer for many reasons and that was one of the frustrating things, a lot of things were said that were untrue, some things were said that were slightly true and that was frustrating.

It's taken both Frank and the club longer than we originally thought

"Now we can put that to bed and concentrate on football."

Speculation surrounding the goal-scoring midfielder rumbled on as the Londoner entered the final year of his previous contract and it intensified when former Blues boss Mourinho tabled a bid to take him to Inter Milan after he became their manager in June.

But Lampard thanked the club for giving him time to decide on his future, especially in light of the death of his mother in April.

"My world got turned upside down and I don't think it is anything anyone appreciates until you go through it," added Lampard. "The club gave me time and I appreciate that.

"I feel for sure I've made 100% the right decision, for myself, for my family and for Chelsea Football Club."

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon admitted that contract talks had dragged on, but only because it was such a major decision for Lampard to make.

"It's taken both Frank and the club longer than we originally thought," he said.

"These are big issues for the club, for Frank and any other player.

"Whatever has gone on I think there is that underlying desire that we get there. this is a great day for the club."

  3. John Terry named England captain...to be fair, none of the candidates really appealled to me, but I know I wasn't keen on JT. I would actually have liked to have seen Ferdinand take the captaincy, I mean last season he became such a better player when he took over from Gary Neville...I'd have also preferred Gerrard, but hey ho - here's hoping Capello can give the squad a good kick in the behind in preparation for the upcoming friendly and qualifiers
  4. Gotta love Oasis for this

  6. LMAO, what a final day of the transfer window...

Gary, hate to say it mate, but Carlo Nash isn't gonna turn Everton's fortunes around in quick time

However, Robinho to Man. City!?????!!!?!? (bet Wayne and Juraj didn't see that coming lol...) No wonder they say money talks...on more important matters though, Norwich sell one of our few permanent centre-backs to Wolves (we only have 2, in addition to a couple of loanees) and bring in YET MORE bloody loans in the form of a 'Boro youngster and Antoine Sibierski from Wigan...

Pavlyuchenko to Spurs could be one of the best signings I think we'll see this season though...

How about closing with one from left-field - Tyrone Mears from Derby to...where, I hear you say? Marseille lol...not often we see English players signing for clubs outside of the UK in this day and age...
  7. OH MY GOD !

    Robihno at man city?!

AND they tried to sign ronaldinho before the start of the season haha

Im an Arsenal fan, wish we'd have grabbed a big name player
