There's a difference between ego and confidence. In Euro2012 it was his ego getting in the way of playing well, in WC2010 it was his confidence lifting him and the team to unexpected heights.

I'm sure people would talk differently had Iniesta and Puyol been sent off in the World Cup final, had Robben scored two easy chances and had van persie gotten a deserved penatly within five minutes. It probably would not have been either of them taking the penalty, but captain van Bronkhorst.
  2. Vertonghen has finally signed with Spurs. So happy right now

  3. Ryan Giggs set to captain the Team GB Olympic team. Not quite the World Cup, but we at least get to see him on the global stage once.

cool how Platini financial fair play counts only in some places ..
  12. Well the financial fair play doesn't come into effect until the 2014-15 season. The season just gone was the first to contribute towards the assessment. Nothing is fair in football really, but when it's your team benefitting and winning, why complain? Manchester City made a £194m loss in 2010-11, so they could cram in as much as they could before the assessment period came into effect. In some ways, it worked for them. They have Champions League football and a decent enough squad. Problem with them though is that they are only a small club and they fail to fill the stadium each week. Can they make enough money to cover the transfer fees and wage bill? Doesn't matter, there are loopholes that can cover it for them.

Same goes for any club really. The financial fair play regulations are just an empty threat in my opinion. I can't see any of the old G-14 struggling with the rules, it'll be smaller clubs who get punished.
