1. Michel Platini has said that expanding the Champions League to 64 teams and scrapping the Europa League is an option amid a wide-ranging debate over the future of its club competitions.

Asked about the possibility of scrapping the second tier competition and doubling the size of the Champions League, the Uefa president said the proposal was under discussion. "There is an ongoing debate to determine what form the European competitions will have between 2015 and 2018. We're discussing it, we will make a decision in 2014. Nothing is decided yet," he told French daily Ouest-France.

However, such a radical move is considered unlikely because it would reduce the number of teams in European competition overall and risk diluting the appeal of the Champions League. There is, however, an acknowledgement that changes are needed to the Europa League if it is to prosper. As such, Uefa is likely to offer a place in the Champions League to both finalists in the competition from 2015 in a bid to increase its allure.

    Oh dear.
  2. That will be really sad.... anyway all the big teams "hate" the Europe league and i don´t understanb why ( less money i think)

    Euro prize money (2011-12)

Champions League: Chelsea earned £49m for winning the competition. Man Utd pocketed £28m despite being knocked out in the group stages.

Europa League: Winners Atletico Madrid received £8.5m. Fulham, knocked out of the group stages, won £2.2m.

Uefa: Europe's governing body earns about £1bn from the Champions League and brings in £225m from the Europa League.
  4. hehehe that´s why ....
  5. I read a good suggestion in the BBC comment box:

A better idea would be to give a UCL spot to the Europa League winner - thus making the "lesser" competition more competitive.

They're champions of the Europa League, so allow them to compete in the Champions League. Take a place away from the country of the Europa League winner. Give teams in the Europa League something to compete for.
  6. Even better, award all semi finalists with a spot in the CL qualifiers round (final round) and both finalist to the group stage
  7. Anything that makes it worth competing in and prevents a merger competition £8.5m is a good winning pot, but there's so much more available for the UCL clubs for just competing in the group stage.
  8. Sneijder could be on the way to Gelsenkirchen ...

  9. No way, only Bayern would be able to afford him in Germany. It's either Russia who can pay his current salary, or one of the top teams in England who can come close but would be a prefered option for him.. Maybe even PSG.
  10. Man Utd are apparently after Mesut Özil. Whilst, Ajax fans, West Ham United are planning a move for Miralem Sulejmani.

Özil is amazing, but I don't think he'll leave.

I hope West Ham gets Sulejmani him in the winter, still the most expensive player ever signed by a Dutch club (16 million) but never lived it up to this. If he doesn't leave this winter he'll walk free.. They tried to hire him before but didn't succeed. He did have so much talent once..
  12. Reading 3-3 Man Utd

No, it's not the full time result, it's after 30 minutes.

Edit: Sorry, Reading 3-4 Man Utd after 35 minutes.
