    Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says it is a "massive wake-up call" that no English clubs have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Bayern Munich's victory over the Gunners on the away goals rule on Wednesday means England will not have a team in the last eight for the first time since the 1995-96 season. "It's a massive disappointment for English football," said Wenger.

    Come home Wenger, you're drunk. Complete non-story. Looking at the finals over the past five years, we've produced five finalists. Manchester United in three, Chelsea in two. But it's hardly been a varied mix with Barcelona and Inter also competing in two finals. I think Spain and Germany have needed the wake-up call considering that England and Italy have dominated the finals for the past ten years with eight and five representations respectively, compared to the three for Spain and two for Germany. Even in terms of unique clubs, England and Italy come out on top with four (Manchester United (3), Chelsea (2), Liverpool (2), and Arsenal) and three (Inter (2), Milan (2), and Juventus). Spain have had Barcelona in three finals and Germany have had Bayern in two. Between 2005 and 2009, there was an English club in each final. Italy were the country last to have such a strong run between 1992 and 1998.

    In terms of winners of the past ten years, it's a tie between England, Spain and Italy sharing nine titles. Only Portugal has broken into that.
